First G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group Meeting to be held in Bengaluru from 9-11 Feb 2023
The first G20 environment meeting under G20 India Presidency is scheduled to be held during 09th -11th February in Bengaluru, at The Taj West End.
Key Highlights
Four Meetings of the Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) are scheduled to be hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). The discussions at ECSWG will focus on the agenda ‘Promotion of Blue Economy along with Coastal Sustainability’, ‘Restoration of Degraded Lands and Ecosystems’ and ‘Enhancement of Biodiversity’ and ‘Strengthening of Circular Economy’.
India will be holding the Presidency of G20 for one year till 30th November 2023. The forum will bring together the G20 member countries, guest countries and international organisations invited by India. Through the Sherpa Track, 13 Working Groups and 2 Initiatives will meet under India’s Presidency to discuss priorities and provide recommendations. Environment, Climate & Sustainability is one of the working groups under the Sherpa Track.

The India International Science Festival started in Madhya Pradesh today. The festival, organised at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology-MANIT, Bhopal, will continue till the 24th of January.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to visit New Delhi on Jan 24
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will visit New Delhi on 24th January 2023. The Egyptian President will be the Chief Guest for Republic Day and a military contingent from Egypt will take part in the celebrations.
India and Egypt are expected to sign around half-a-dozen Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in areas ranging from agriculture to digital during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to the country.
PM Modi to name 21 islands of Andaman & Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a ceremony to name 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees on 23rd January at 11 AM via video conferencing. PM Modi will also unveil the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep.
These islands have been named after the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, viz. Major Somnath Sharma; Subedar and Hony Captain (then Lance Naik) Karam Singh, MM; 2nd Lt. Rama Raghoba Rane; Nayak Jadunath Singh; Company Havildar Major Piru Singh; Capt GS Salaria; Lieutenant Colonel (then Major) Dhan Singh Thapa; Subedar Joginder Singh; Major Shaitan Singh; CQMH.
