President Droupadi Murmu confers Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

President Droupadi Murmu today conferred upon Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2023 at a ceremony in New Delhi. The Government has been conferring the award to children for their exceptional achievement in six categories.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar: Backgrond

The Government of India confers the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) award to children for their exceptional achievements. The awards are conferred upon children in the age group 5 – 18 years, for their excellence in six categories, viz. Art & Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Scholastic, Social Service and Sports, which deserve national recognition. Each awardee of PMRBP is given a medal, a cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh and a Certificate.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar: Categories 

This year, the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar will be conferred upon 11 children selected from all regions of the country for their exceptional achievement in the field of Art and Culture (4), Bravery (1), Innovation (2), Social Service (1), and Sports (3).


Indian Navy commission fifth Kalvari class submarine VAGIR 

Indian Navy’s fifth stealth Scorpene class Submarine INS Vagir was commissioned into the Indian Navy today, 23 Jan 2023 at the Naval Dockyard Mumba.

The Kalvari class submarine VAGIR are being built in India by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with Naval Group, France. Four of the Kalvari class of submarines have already been commissioned into the Indian Navy.

The erstwhile VAGIR was commissioned on 01 Nov 1973 and undertook numerous operational missions including deterrent patrols. The submarine was decommissioned on 07 Jan 2001 after serving the nation for about three decades.

SCO Film Festival to be held in Mumbai from 27th to 31st January, 2023 

SCO Film Festival to be held in Mumbai: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is organizing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival from the 27th - 31st of January, 2023, in Mumbai, through the National Film Development Corporation. The SCO Film Festival is being organized to mark India’s Presidency at SCO.

The festival will showcase films of the SCO countries in the Competition and Non-Competition screenings. In addition to the film screenings, the festival will have master-classes, in-conversation sessions, country and state pavilions, photo and poster exhibitions, handicrafts stalls, and many more other events.


Indian films bag award for best script writer and best actress at 21st DIFF  

Two Indian films bagged awards for the best script writer and best actress in the Asian Film Competition section at the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) which concluded on 22nd January 2023.

Anik Dutta directed film Aparajito (The Undefeated) got the best scriptwriting award while Ketaki Narayan was judged the best actress for her role in Krishnendu Kalesh directed film Prappeda (Hawk’s Muffin).

RBI imposes ₹26 lakh penalty on Nutan Nagarik Sahakari Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹26.00 lakh (Rupees Twenty-six lakh only) on Nutan Nagarik Sahakari Bank Limited Ahmedabad for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Co-operative Bank-Interest rate on deposits’ and ‘Guidelines for issue of ATM-cum-Debit cards by Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs)'.


RBI imposes ₹1.50 lakh penalty on Samarth Sahakari Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBl) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.50 lakh (Rupees One lakh and Fifty Thousand only) on Samarth Sahakari Bank Ltd., Solapur (Maharashtra) for contravention of/non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI to Urban Cooperative Banks on Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC).


Ministry of Ayush signs MoU with ITDC for Promotion of Medical Value travel in India 

The Ministry of Ayush has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India to work together for the promotion of Medical Value Travel in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine.

Key Highlights 

According to the MoU, the Ministry of Ayush will provide training to the officials of ITDC to sensitize them about the Medical value of travel in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine. 

It will identify tourist circuits, where there is immense scope to promote Medical value travel in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine and provide all the technical knowhow from time to time to ITDC.

ITDC on the suggestion of the Ministry of Ayush will include historical heritage sites of Indian systems of medicine in tourist destinations under "Knowledge Tourism" and may develop films/literature useful to tourists. It will explore establishing Ayurveda and Yoga centres in the Hotels run by ITDC and will organize sensitization workshops in collaboration.


ECI hosts second International Conference on Use of Technology & Elections Integrity 

Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioner’s Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel inaugurated a two day international conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology & Elections Integrity’.

ECI is leading the Cohort on Elections Integrity which was established as a follow up to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held virtually in December, 2021.

The first international conference of the Cohort was organized on 31 Oct – 01 Nov, 2022 at New Delhi on the topic ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’ where nearly 50 representatives from the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of 11 countries participated.

Participate by

Around 43 Participants from 17 Countries/EMBs including Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Dominica, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Kiribati, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines and Suriname and 06 participants from international organisations namely, IFES, International IDEA are expected to join. The representatives from a number of foreign missions located at New Delhi are also expected to attend the conference.


PM Modi name 21 islands of Andaman & Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees 

On Parakram Diwas, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a ceremony to name the 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees via video conferencing. PM Modi also unveiled the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep.

These islands have been named after the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees. Major Somnath Sharma; Subedar and Hony Captain (then Lance Naik) Karam Singh, MM; 2nd Lt. Nitin Gadkari inaugurates 18 National Highway projects in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh 

Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated 18 National Highway projects with a total length of 550 km in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh worth Rs. 6800 crore.


Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates and lays foundation stones of projects at Deendayal Port Gujarat 

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated and laid foundation stones of projects worth Rs. 270 crore at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Gujarat. The Minister inaugurated Oil jetty no. 7 worth Rs.73.92 crore at Deendayal Port, Kandla.

The jetty will enhance the liquid handling capacity, by 2.00 MMTPA, of mainly edible oil, and fulfil the future requirements and will reduce the Turn-around time of the vessels. 

This T-shaped Jetty is 110 m long and 12.40 m wide and can handle the large size of vessel upto 65000 DWT and 14 m depth. The project has led to an indirect employment of around 1000 plus and direct employment of around 250 plus, during the construction phase.


Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn wins India Open Badminton title 2023

Thailand shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the India Open title 2023. He defeated World No.1 Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in the men's singles final of the India Open Badminton Championship 22-20, 10-21 and 21-12 at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
