Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman present Union Budget 2023-24

Union Budget 2023-24: PDF in Hindi and English: The Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023-24 in Parliament today. This is the first budget in Amrit Kaal. 

The Union Budget envisages a total outlay of Rs. 45.03 lakh crore in 2023-24; increase of 7.5% over 2022-23. The Indian Economy is a ‘bright star’ as the Economic Growth is estimated at 7 per cent, which is the highest among all major economies, in spite of the massive global slowdown caused by COVID-19 and Russia-Ukraine War.

GST Revenue collection for January 2023 crosses 1.55 lakh crore, second highest-ever 

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of January 2023 is Rs 1,55,922 crore of which CGST is Rs 28,963 crore, SGST is Rs 36,730 crore, IGST is Rs 79,599 crore (including Rs 37,118 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is Rs 10,630 crore (including Rs 768 crore collected on import of goods).

GST collection at Rs 1.55 lakh crore in January: Key Highlights

The Government has settled Rs 38,507 crore to CGST and Rs 32,624 crore to SGST from IGST as regular settlement. The total revenue of Centre and the States in the month of January 2023 after regular settlement is Rs 67,470 crore for CGST and Rs 69,354 crore for the SGST.

The revenues in the current financial year upto the month of January 2023 are 24% higher than the GST revenues during the same period last year. The revenues for this period from import of goods are 29% higher and from domestic transaction (including import of services) are 22% higher than the revenues from these sources for the same period last year.

This is for the third time, in the current financial year, GST collection has crossed Rs 1.50 lakh crore mark. The GST collection in January 2023 is the second highest next only to the collection reported in April 2022. During the month of December 2022, 8.3 crore e-way bills were generated, which is the highest so far and it was significantly higher than 7.9 crore e-way bills generated in November 2022.


1st G20 Education working group meeting held in Chennai 

The first G20 Education working group meeting will begin in Chennai on 1st Feb 2023. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan will inaugurate the session where deliberations will take place on carrying forward the resolutions passed during the last summit.

Discussions will be held on K 12 education, tech-enabled learning and skill development. The delegates were present for the Seminar held on 31st January 2023.


NSA Ajit Doval launches US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies 

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan formally launched the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) in Washington DC.


Former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan passes away at 97

Former Union law minister and noted advocate Shanti Bhushan passed away. He was 97. Shanti Bhushan was the Law Minister of the country from 1977 to 1979. He was made a minister during Morarji Desai's government.

The senior advocate Shanti Bhushan was also a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party.
