India, Singapore to launch of cross-border connectivity between UPI & PayNow on 21st Feb   

India, Singapore to link their Fast Payment Systems – UPI and PayNow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong will witness the launch of cross-border connectivity between the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India and PayNow of Singapore through video conferencing on 21st February 2023.

Key Highlights 

The launch will be done by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das and Ravi Menon, Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore.

The linkage of these two payment systems will enable residents of both countries in faster and cost-efficient transfer of cross-border remittances. It will also help the Indian diaspora in Singapore, especially migrant workers and students through instantaneous and low-cost transfer of money from Singapore to India and vice-versa.


German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit India on 25-26 Feb 2023 

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be on a two day visit to India from 25th to 26th February 2023. During his visit, the Chancellor will hold discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on bilateral, regional and global issues. The two Leaders will also interact with CEOs and business leaders of both sides. Chancellor Scholz will also call on President Droupadi Murmu.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit India: Key Highlights  

This will be Chancellor Scholz’s first visit to India in his current role. He will be accompanied by senior officials and a high-powered business delegation.

The 49th Khajuraho Dance Festival has begun in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The festival will conclude on 26 February. Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel inaugurated Khajuraho Dance Festival-2023.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a Learning-Teaching Material called 'Jaadui Pitara' for Foundational Stages in New Delhi.

Background 

Under the National Curriculum Framework for foundational stage - 2022, this unique initiative of the government will help students of foundational stages learn in a play-way method with ease. The Jaadui Pitara' comprises of playbooks, activity books, flash cards, posters depicting various stories, games, puzzles, puppets and many more items.


Senior JDU leader Upendra Kushwaha quit the party 

Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Upendra Kushwaha quit the party and resigned from all party positions.

EPFO adds 14.93 lakh net members in December, 2022 

The provisional payroll data of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) released, highlights that EPFO has added 14.93 lakh net members in the month of December, 2022. Year-on-year comparison of payroll data reflects an increase of 32,635 in net membership addition in December, 2022 as compared to the corresponding month during last year in 2021.

Out of 14.93 lakh members added during the month, around 8.02 lakh new members have come under the social security coverage of EPFO for the first time.

Among the newly joined members, highest enrolment is registered in the age-group of 18-21 years with 2.39 lakh members, followed by the age-group of 22-25 years with 2.08 lakh members. The age-groups of 18-25 years constitutes 55.64% of total of new members during the month.

Gender-wise analysis 

Gender-wise analysis of payroll data indicates that enrolment of new female members has been 2.05 lakh in December, 2022. The percentage of new female member among the total new joinees has increased from 25.14% in November 2022 to 25.57% during the current month. Social security cover under the Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 has been extended to these female members for the first time.

State-wise payroll figures

State-wise payroll figures highlight that top five states in terms of net member addition are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Haryana. These states together added 60.08% of net member addition during the month. Of all the states, Maharashtra is leading by adding 24.82% of overall member addition followed by the state of Tamil Nadu with 10.08% during the month.


18 lakh new workers added under ESI Scheme in December 2022

The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESI Scheme) provisional payroll data for the month of December 2022 was released today. As per the provisional payroll data, 18.03 lakh new employees have been added in the month of December, 2022.

Year-on-year comparison of payroll data reflects an increase of 14.52 lakh employees who paid contribution in ESI Scheme in December 2022 as compared to December 2021.

As per data, around 27,700 new establishments have been registered in the month of December, 2022 under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation ensuring social security cover to their employees.
