Joe Biden nominates Ajay Banga to become president of World Bank    

United States President Joe Biden has nominated former Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga to become president of the World Bank.

About Ajay Banga

Ajay Banga currently serves as Vice Chairman at General Atlantic. Previously, he was President and CEO of Mastercard, leading the company through a strategic, technological and cultural transformation.

Banga was awarded the Padma Shri Award by the President of India in 2016.


PM Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to hold bilateral talks in New Delhi 

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will arrive on a two-day visit to India today, February 25. Chancellor Scholz will be accompanied by senior officials and a high-powered business delegation.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in India: Key Highlights   

This will be the German Chancellor's first visit to India in his current role. This is the first standalone visit of a German Chancellor to India since the biennial Inter-Governmental Consultation mechanism commenced in 2011.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Olaf Scholz will hold discussions on bilateral, regional and global issues. The two Leaders will also interact with CEOs and business leaders of both sides. Chancellor Scholz will also call on President Droupadi Murmu.

Bangladesh signs agreement with ISA to increase use of solar energy 

The government of Bangladesh signed an agreement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to increase the use of solar energy in the country.

The agreement was signed between the ISA Director General Ajay Mathur and the Bangladesh Power Division Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman. The agreement is to be implemented by December 2026.


US Secy of State Antony Blinken to visit Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan & India from Feb 28 to 3 March 

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and India from 28th February to 3rd March 2023. Antony Blinken will travel to New Delhi on the 1st of March to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting.

During his visit to India, Blinken will hold a meeting with officials of the Union government and the civil society to reaffirm the strong partnership between the two nations.


New Delhi World Book Fair to be held in Pragati Maidan from 25 Feb - 5 March 

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate the New Delhi World Book Fair today. The nine-day fair will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

New Delhi World Book Fair 2023: Key Highlights  

Several literary and cultural activities focussing on the theme 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', will be organized during the fair. More than two thousand stalls will be set up and more than one thousand book publishers will participate in the fair. France has been designated as the Guest of Honour Country.

The G20 theme has been integrated with the New Delhi World Book Fair and exhibitions of books from G20 member countries will also be organized during the fair.


APEDA inks MoU with Lulu Hypermarket for export promotion of millets in GCC countries 

In a move to harness export potential of millets to the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCCs), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) that works under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lulu Hypermarket LLC.

Aims 

APEDA aims to promote millet products and value-added products around the world in association with Lulu Group, which is an international retail hypermarket chain that operates stores and shopping malls across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, India and Far East.

Background  

As per the agreement, the Lulu Group will facilitate promotional activities for millet products and enable the country to display millets and its value added products, ready to eat products in international retail chains by sourcing it from Farmer Producer Organizations, Farmer Producer Companies, women entrepreneurs and startups.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved ₹1292.65 Crore under Bharatmala Pariyojana for the development of 32.00 Km long 6-lane Access Controlled Greenfield Highway from Chandrasekharapuram to Polavaram on (NH-544G) Bengaluru–Vijayawada Economic Corridor in Hybrid Annuity Mode in Andhra Pradesh.

In a series of tweets Gadkari informed the Bengaluru – Kadapa – Vijayawada Economic Corridor starts from Bengaluru STRR which utilizes the existing Bengaluru – Hyderabad (NH-44) till the Kodikonda checkpost on NH 44.


Nitin Gadkari approves National Highway project on EPC Mode in West Bengal 

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved Rs 410.83 Crore for the construction of a 4-lane Raniganj Bypass with a length of 5.261 km on NH-14 (old NH-60) in Paschim Bardhaman district on EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Mode in West Bengal.

In a series of tweets Gadkari informed that NH-14 starts from its junction with NH-12 (Old NH 34) near Morgram connecting Rampur Hat, Siuri, Raniganj, Bankura, Garhbeta, and Salbani and terminating at its junction with NH-16 (Old NH 2) near Kharagpur in the West Bengal.
