13th edition of India - Singapore Joint Military Exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2023  

The 13th edition of Indian Army - Singapore Army joint military exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2023 concluded at Jodhpur Military Station. Exercise Bold Kurukshetra, a bilateral armour exercise was conducted from 06 to 13 March 2023.

India - Singapore exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2023: Key Highlights 

For the first time in the exercise series, both armies participated in a command post Exercise, which involved Battalion and Brigade level planning elements and computer wargaming. Hosted by the Indian Army, the exercise involved soldiers from the 42nd Battalion, Singapore Armoured Regiment and an Armoured Brigade of the Indian Army.

The ten-day long joint training that commenced on 05th March fostered common understanding of mechanised warfare in emerging threats and evolving technologies, developing inter-operability through a computer simulation-based Wargame using joint operational and tactical procedures controlled through a joint command post. 

Both contingents not only learnt about each other’s operating drills and procedure, but also exchanged ideas and best practices being followed in a modern combat zone.


SCO International Conference on Shared Buddhist Heritage held in New Delhi 

The two-day international conference of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on “Shared Buddhist Heritage” was inaugurated at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, with focus on India’s civilizational connection with the SCO nations.

Aims  

The aim of the Conference is to re-establish trans-cultural links, seek out commonalities, between Buddhist art of Central Asia, art styles, archaeological sites and antiquity in various museums’ collections of the SCO countries.

Background

The event, a first of its kind, under India’s leadership of SCO (for a period of one-year, from 17 September, 2022 until September 2023) brings together Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian and Arab countries on a common platform to discuss “Shared Buddhist Heritage”.

The SCO countries are Member States, Observer States and Dialogue Partners, including China, Russia and Mongolia. Several scholars – delegates from SCO are presenting research papers on the topic including from Dunhuang Research Academy, China; State Museum of the History of Religion, International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Myanmar, among others.


India's wholesale inflation eases to 3.85% in February 

Wholesale Price-based Inflation (WPI) for February 2023 eased to two year low of 3.85 percent against 4.73 percent recorded in preceding month.

Decline in the WPI is primarily contributed by fall in prices of crude petroleum & natural gas, food products, electronic, chemicals and electrical equipment.


Surekha Yadav becomes first woman loco pilot of Vande Bharat Express train 

Asia's first woman loco pilot Surekha Yadav has now become the first female to operate the Vande Bharat Express train. Surekha Yadav became the first woman train driver not only in India but also in Asia in the year 1988.

Surekha Yadav piloted the semi-high speed train between Solapur station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.


B20 Conference to showcase vibrant organic farming of Sikkim 

The vibrant organic farming of Sikkim will be prominently showcased to the world through the third B20 Conferences being organized in Gangtok, Sikkim from 15 to 17th March 2023.

Background

The Business 20 was formed in 2010 and is the official G20 dialogue forum with the global business community. B20 aims to deliver concrete actionable policy recommendations on the priorities of each rotating presidency to spur economic growth and development. 

The B20 has scheduled a total of 100 meetings with the number of in-person meetings being 65 and the number of Hybrid Meetings being 35.

The B20 Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from 26th -27th August 2023 and the Startup 20 Summit is scheduled to take place in Gurugram from 2nd -4th July 2023.


IREDA gets ‘Infrastructure Finance Company’ status 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted an ‘Infrastructure Finance Company (IFC)’ status to Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). It was earlier classified as ‘Investment and Credit Company (ICC)’.

With the IFC status, IREDA will be able to take higher exposure in RE financing. The IFC status will also help the company to access wider investor base for fund mobilisation, resulting in competitive rates for fund raising.

The recognition of IREDA as an IFC will increase the investors’ confidence, enhance the brand value, and generate positive outlook in the market. The grant of IFC status is a recognition of IREDA’s 36 years of infrastructure financing and development with focused development of Renewable Energy. With IFC status, IREDA will keep contributing towards Govt. of India’s target of 500 GW installed capacity of non-fossil fuels by 2030.


BIS launches 'Learning Science via Standards' series 

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India has announced the launch of ‘Learning Science via Standards’, a unique initiative for students for learning science via standards.

Learning Science via Standards series: Aims

The ‘Learning Science via Standards’ initiative focuses on a series of lesson plans aimed to use scientific concepts, principles and laws to help students understand their practical applications in manufacturing, functioning and testing of quality characteristics of different products as stated in the relevant Indian Standards.

The subjects for the lesson plans are largely related to products used in day-to-day life and have been chosen based on their relevance to education as part of the course curriculum as well as to industrial applications.


Uttarakhand govt approves 10% reservation for statehood activists in govt jobs 

The Uttarakhand government has given approval to the 10% horizontal reservation to the statehood activists in the state government job. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held at Bhararisain under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid foundation stones of 9 National Highway projects in Mahoba ,Uttar Pradesh with an investment of more than 3,500 crores.

Mahoba, the land of brave warriors, has a rich history. With the construction of Jhansi-Khajuraho road, the traffic will ease in Maihar-Singrauli-Ranchi industrial division and Jhansi-Orchha-Khajuraho and tourism of the state will get a boost. The construction of the Kabrai section on the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border, the traffic in the Bhopal-Kanpur industrial division till Lucknow will be smooth, saving time.
