Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar assumes charge as Vice Chief of the Army Staff  

Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar has assumed the appointment of the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 March 2023. General Kumar has replaced BS Raju who has taken over the reins of Jaipur based Sapta Shakti Command.

Prior to taking over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar was the appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) at Army HQ. He has experience in intelligence, operations, force structuring, operational logistics and tech infusion in his recent appointments.

Rajesh Malhotra takes charge as Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau 

Rajesh Malhotra has assumed charge as Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau (PIB). Malhotra takes over after the superannuation of Shri Satyendra Prakash.

Rajesh Malhotra, an Indian Information Service (IIS) Officer of the 1989 batch, had been working in the Ministry of Finance since January 2018.

Malhotra has over 32 years of operational experience in planning and implementation of Media & Communication strategies for various Central Government Ministries/ Departments including Finance, Company Affairs, Agriculture, Power, Coal, Mines, Communications & IT, Textiles, Labour, New & Renewable Energy. Further, he was associated with Election Commission of India as in-charge of media & communication for 21 years (1996-2017), thereby planning and implementing media & communication strategies during the six General Elections to the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament of India), along with several State Assembly Polls and elections for the President and Vice-President of India, conducted by the Election Commission. During this tenure, Malhotra has worked closely with 12 Chief Election Commissioners.

Rajesh Malhotra holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from IMT, Ghaziabad, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Media Laws from NALSAR, Hyderabad. Further, he has also been a part of the short-term course on Public Policy Analysis from University of California, Media Management & Strategies at Thomson Foundation, UK and the Programme on ‘Marketing: The Winning Concepts & Practices’ organised by IIM Lucknow at New Delhi.


First SCO International Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine to be held in Guwahati 

Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the first B2B Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine under Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at Guwahati on 2nd March 2023.

The B2B Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine under SCO is scheduled from 2nd to 5th March, 2023 at Guwahati, Assam.

The Conference and Expo will provide an opportunity to regulators, industries and business leaders in all the SCO and partner countries to deliberate on various aspects of Traditional Medicine aspects such as products, services, education, skill development, cosmetics, Herbal extracts and further deepen the trade and friendship among each other in the area of Traditional medicine and allied field.


Cabinet approves procurement of 70 HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft from HAL 

The Union Cabinet has approved procurement of 70 HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force at a cost of Rs 6,828.36 crore.
The aircraft will be supplied over a period of six years.

Key Highlights

The HTT-40 is a turboprop aircraft and is designed to have good low speed handling qualities and provide better training effectiveness. This fully aerobatic tandem seat turbo trainer has air-conditioned cockpit, modern avionics, hot refuelling, running change over and zero-zero ejection seats. The aircraft will meet the shortage of basic trainer aircraft of IAF for training of newly inducted pilots.

The procurement will include associated equipment and training aids including simulators. Being an indigenous solution, the Aircraft is configurable for upgrades to incorporate the futuristic requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.


Cabinet approves contract signing with L&T for three Cadet Training Ships 

The Union Cabinet has accorded approval to sign a contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for acquisition of three Cadet Training Ships, at an overall cost of Rs 3,108.09 crore, under Buy {Indian-IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)} category. The delivery of ships is scheduled to commence from 2026.

Key Highlights

These ships will cater to the training of officer cadets, including women, at sea after their basic training to meet the future requirements of the Indian Navy. The ships would also provide training to cadets from friendly countries with the aim to strengthen diplomatic relations. The ships can also be deployed for evacuation of people and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).

The ships will be indigenously designed, developed and constructed at L&T shipyard in Kattupalli, Chennai. The project will generate an employment of 22.5 lakh man-days over a period of four-and-half years.


India hosts first meeting of Governing Board of BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC) 

India hosted the first meeting of the Governing Board of BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC) on 27th February, 2023 in Bengaluru.

There was active participation from all BIMSTEC countries viz. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand along with BIMSTEC Sectt. All member states appreciated the opportunity to have been able to convene after a long hiatus.


First G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group meeting to be held in Gurugram 

The first G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) meeting is scheduled to begin today and continue till 3rd March 2023.

The G20 ACWG will explore proactive sharing of information, improving existing mutual legal assistance framework and simplifying mechanisms for sharing of information between domestic law enforcement authorities in criminal matters.


G-20 Foreign Ministers meeting to begin in New Delhi 

The G20 Foreign Ministers meeting will be held in New Delhi today, March 1, under India's presidency. Foreign Ministers of member nations of the G20 will attend the meeting.


Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela to be held in New Delhi 

The Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela, organised every year by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), will be held in New Delhi from 2 to 4 March 2023, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar. This time the theme of the fair is “Nutrition, Food and Environmental Protection with Shree Anna”.


Indian Navy Participation Women20@g20 at Aurangabad

Women Officers of the Indian Navy and a spouse of a senior serving Naval Officer shared their experiences and association with the Indian Navy at the Women 20 inception meet under the aegis of G20 at Aurangabad on 28 February 2023.

Speaking to the audience under the theme Breaking the Barriers : Stories of Unconventional Women , their thoughts and stories were reflective of gender empowerment and inclusivity in both letter and spirit in the Indian Navy. Each had something unique and special to say.
