PM Modi to flag off Vande Bharat Express between Bhopal and New Delhi   

PM Modi in Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhopal on 1st April, 2023. PM Modi will attend the Combined Commanders’ Conference-2023 at the Kushabhau Thakre Hall in Bhopal.

Thereafter, PM Modi will flag off the Vande Bharat Express train between Bhopal and New Delhi at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, Bhopal.

Combined Commanders’ Conference 2023 

The three-day conference of Military Commanders will be held from 30th March to 1st April 2023 on the theme ‘Ready, Resurgent, Relevant’. During the Conference, deliberations will be held over a varied spectrum of issues pertaining to national security, including jointness and theaterisation in the Armed Forces. Preparation of the Armed Forces and progress in defence ecosystem towards attaining ‘Aatmanirbharta’ will also be reviewed.

The Combined Commanders’ Conference 2023 will witness participation of commanders from the three armed forces and senior officers from the Ministry of Defence. Inclusive and informal interaction will also be held with soldiers, sailors and airmen from Army, Navy and Air Force who will contribute to the deliberations.

Vande Bharat Express 

Vande Bharat Express has redefined passenger travel experience in the country. The new train being introduced between Rani Kamlapati Railway station, Bhopal and New Delhi railway station will be the eleventh Vande Bharat train in the country. 

The indigenously designed train set of Vande Bharat Express is equipped with state-of-the-art passenger amenities. It will provide faster, comfortable and convenient travel experience to the rail users, boost tourism and promote economic development in the region.


RBI imposes ₹2.10 lakh penalty on Mehsana District Central Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2.10 lakh (Rupees two lakh ten thousand only) on Mehsana District Central Co-operative Bank Limited Mehsana in Gujarat for contravention of/non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by RBI contained in the Reserve Bank of India – (Know Your Customer (KYC) Direction, 2016, and RBI directions on ‘Membership of Credit Information Companies (CICs) by Co-operative Banks’.


Govt exempts customs duty on drugs, food specially imported to treat Rare Diseases 

The Central Government has given full exemption from basic customs duty on all drugs and Food for Special Medical Purposes imported for personal use for treatment of all Rare Diseases listed under the National Policy for Rare Diseases 2021 through a general exemption notification.

In order to avail this exemption, the individual importer has to produce a certificate from Central or State Director Health Services District Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon of the district. Drugs/Medicines generally attract basic customs duty of 10%, while some categories of lifesaving drugs/vaccines attract concessional rate of 5% or Nil.


MoD signs contract with BEL for 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems 

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore for procurement of 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems for Indian Navy at a total cost of over Rs 1,700 crore under Buy Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category.

Background 

The Lynx-U2 System is a Naval Gun Fire Control System designed and developed indigenously. It is capable of accurately tracking and engaging targets amidst sea clutter as well as air/surface targets.

The 4th generation, completely indigenous systems, will be installed on New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels to be built indigenously at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Goa Shipyard Limited. This move will generate an employment of two lakh man-days over a period of four years and encourage active participation of various Indian industries, including MSMEs, thus significantly contributing to the Government’s efforts to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence.


1st G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting begins in Gandhinagar 

The first G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting under India's G20 Presidency has begun in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Around 100 delegates from the G20 member countries, invitee countries and from nine International organisations are participating in the three day event. 

Five priority areas have been identified for the meeting which includes early warning for all, resilient infrastructure and improving the National system for financing Disaster Risk Reduction.


1st Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test held in 10 States and UTs 

The (FLNAT) under Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (New India Literacy Programme ) was held on 19.03.2023 across 10 States and UTs in the country to assess the basic Reading, Writing and Numeracy skills of the neo-literates.

The youth and students of schools and colleges were involved as volunteer teachers to organize teaching learning activities.

More than 22.70 lakh learners participated in the event of Foundational Literacy and numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) so that they can be declared as literates on qualifying. Non-literates of 15 years and above age group included men and women of more than 80 year’s age and proud to hold pen.


Govt identifies 1275 railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station scheme 

Government has identified 1275 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme for development of Railway stations. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said this in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. 


Japan sign USD 1.24 Billion ODA loan agreements with Bangladesh 

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed loan agreements with the Government of Bangladesh in Dhaka to provide Japanese ODA loans of up to a total of 1.24 billion dollars for three infrastructure and connectivity projects in the country.

The loan package includes Chattogram- Cox’s Bazar highway improvement project, construction of the dual gauge rail line between Joydebpur-Ishwardy section and Matarbari Port development project, phase 2. The loans carry an interest rate of 1.2 percent per annum with a repayment period of 30 years including the grace period of 10 years.


Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan appointed as Vice-President of UAE 

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has named Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

With the approval of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been appointed as the UAE Vice-President, and the incumbent Vice president Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will also continue in the same role.
