India gives $2 million to African Union Transition Mission in Somalia  

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa by handing over a contribution of USD 2 million to the United Nations Trust Fund in support of African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). India had earlier contributed USD 4 million to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

India recognizes the important role being played by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in providing an enabling security environment in Somalia. 


Indian-origin mathematician CR Rao wins Statistics Prize 2023 

Noted Indian-American statistician Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao has been awarded the 2023 International Prize in Statistics. The International Prize in Statistics, which is considered to be the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Statistics.

CR Rao will receive the prize, which comes with an $80,000 cash award at the biennial International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress in Ottawa, Canada in July 2023.


PM Modi to flag off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train on 12th April, 2023 via video conferencing.

The inaugural train will run between Jaipur and Delhi Cantt Railway Station. The regular service of this Vande Bharat Express will start from 13th April, 2023 and will operate between Ajmer and Delhi Cantt with stops at Jaipur, Alwar and Gurgaon.

Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train: Key Highlights  

The new Vande Bharat Express train will cover the distance between Delhi Cantt. and Ajmer in 5 hours 15 minutes. The present fastest train in the same route, Shatabdi Express, takes 6 hours 15 minutes from Delhi Cantt. to Ajmer. Thus, the new Vande Bharat Express will be faster by 60 minutes as compared to the present fastest train running on the same route.

Ajmer-Delhi Cantt. Vande Bharat Express will be the world's first semi high speed passenger train on high rise overhead electric (OHE) territory. The train will improve connectivity of major tourist destinations in Rajasthan including Pushkar, Ajmer Sharif Dargah etc. Enhanced connectivity will also provide a boost to socio-economic development in the region.


Rajnath Singh to inaugurate three-day International Conference on Defence Finance & Economics 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the three-day International Conference on Defence Finance & Economics in New Delhi on April 12, 2023.

Aims

The conference aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among the participants and contribute to the country's defence readiness with optimum financial resources and effective implementation of the Defence Budget. Election Commission grants national party status to AAP 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) granted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) a national party status. The Commission has also withdrawn the national party status of Trinamool Congress, Communist Party of India and Nationalist Congress Party.

In its order issued, the Election Commission said, after its recognition as a State party in Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party has become a recognized state party in four states namely Delhi, Punjab, Goa and Gujarat. It said, the party has fulfilled the eligibility conditions for granting recognition as a national party.

The Commission has withdrawn the state party status of Trinamool Congress in the States of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. It has also withdrawn the state party status of Communist Party of India in the states of West Bengal and Odisha. State party status of NCP in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya has also been withdrawn by the Commission.


Second Women 20 International Meeting to be held in Jaipur from 13th-14th April 

The second Women 20 (W20) International Meeting will be held in Jaipur from 13th to 14th April 2023.

The meeting will bring together 120 women leaders from across 18 G20 countries to address gender inequality issues and promote women’s economic empowerment globally.


World’s first Asian King Vulture conservation and breeding center to be inaugurated UP's Maharajganj 

The world’s first conservation and breeding centre for the critically endangered Asian king vulture is set to open in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district.

The centre, named Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre (JCBC) was established at Maharajganj, Gorakhpur in an area of 1.5 hectares. It is a 15-year project which aims to raise at least 40 vultures.

Indian Railways decides to run 217 special trains for summer season

Indian Railways has decided to run 217 special trains to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for the passengers during the summer season. The Ministry of Railways in a statement said, these special trains will make a total of four thousand and ten trips.

These Special Trains have been planned to connect major destinations across the country on railway routes. Out of the total 217 trains, the highest 69 trains will be operated by the South Western Zone which will make a total of one thousand seven hundred and 68 trips.
