Siddhartha Mohanty appointed as Chairman of LIC 

Siddhartha Mohanty appointed as Chairman of LIC: The Government of India has appointed Siddhartha Mohanty as the Chairperson of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) till June 29, 2024.

Siddhartha Mohanty was serving as the interim chairman of the corporation from March 14, 2023. He replaced M R Kumar, who completed his term.

Chairman Siddhartha will be the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of the insurance giant from June 2024 to June 2025.

About Siddhartha Mohanty LIC Chairman 

Siddhartha Mohanty started his career as a direct recruit officer with LIC in 1985 and has risen through the ranks to this senior position.

Mohanty previously served as COO and CEO of LIC Housing Finance Limited. Before joining LIC Housing Finance, he was Executive Director- Legal with LIC of India.

World Bank approves $1.25 billion financing for three new projects in Bangladesh 

The World Bank (WB) has approved a financing of $1.25 billion for three new projects in Bangladesh to help Bangladesh achieve greener and more resilient development and greater inclusion.

Key Highlights 

The financing was approved after the meeting of the Bank to discuss a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Bangladesh (2023-27).

Out of the three projects, USD 500 million Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Resilience (PARTNER) project.

The second project is USD 500 million First Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit. The third project is USD 250 million Sustainable Microenterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART) project.


PM Modi inaugurates 91 new 100W FM Transmitters to enhance FM connectivity 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 91 new 100W FM Transmitters via video conferencing. The inauguration will give a further boost to radio connectivity in the country.

Background  

To enhance FM connectivity in the country, 91 new 100W FM transmitters have been installed in 85 districts across 18 States and 2 Union Territories. A special focus of this expansion has been on enhancing coverage in Aspirational Districts and in border areas.

The States and UTs which are covered include Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Ladakh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. With this expansion of AIR’s FM service, an additional 2 crore people will now be covered who did not have access to the medium. It will result in the expansion of coverage in about 35,000 sq km area.


Nitin Gadkari chairs the 10th Meeting for the SCO Transport Ministers 

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari chaired the 10th Meeting for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Transport Ministers at New Delhi.

Chaired by India this year, SCO currently comprises eight Member States which are India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

A Special Working Group has been established to promote collaboration among member states of the SCO in the field of transportation.
