RBI appoints Neeraj Nigam as new Executive Director  

Neeraj Nigam appointed as Executive Director of RBI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Neeraj Nigam as the new Executive Director (ED) with effect from April 03, 2023.

Prior to being promoted as Executive Director (ED), Neeraj Nigam was heading the Bhopal Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as Regional Director.

India-Central Asia Culture Ministers’ meeting held via VC 

The first India-Central Asia Culture Ministers’ Meeting through video conferencing on 3rd April, 2023. The 1st Culture Ministers' meeting hosted by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region G. Kishan Reddy.

Background 

The India-Central Asia Summit hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 27th January 2022 had laid emphasis on promoting cultural cooperation for better understanding of culture between the Central Asian countries and strengthening our age-old cultural linkages which bind our people together.

RBI imposes ₹1 lakh penalty on The Jamnagar People’s Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh (Rupees One Lakh only) on The Jamnagar people’s Co-operative Bank Limited Jamnagar, Gujarat for contravention of directions issued by RBI on ‘Income Recognition, Asset Classification and Provisioning Norms for Loans and Advances’ and ‘Reserve Bank of India (Co-operative Banks - Interest Rate on Deposits) Directions, 2016’.


Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck official visit in India

King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has arrived in India on a three-day visit. He was received by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar at the airport in New Delhi.

The King of Bhutan is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Dr. Tandi Dorji and senior officials of the Bhutan government.


Second G20 Employment Working Group Meeting begins in Guwahati 

The Second Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency has started in Guwahati, Assam. Over 72 delegates from 19 G20 member countries, 7 guest countries and 5 International Organisations are participating in the three-day meeting.

The EWG has a mandate of addressing priority labour, employment and social issues for strong, sustainable, balanced, and job-rich growth for all.

The two-day Science20 conference under India's G20 presidency began in Agartala, Tripura. More than 60 delegates are participating in this science conclave titled Clean Energy for Greener Future' as part of the G20 meetings.


Parliament passes Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023

Parliament has passed the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today amid din without discussion. The Lok Sabha had cleared the Bill last week. 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Bill in the Upper House which was passed with a voice vote amid protests by the opposition parties over the Adani Group issue.

The Bill seeks to amend the Competition Act, 2002 to regulate mergers and acquisitions based on the value of transactions. It stipulates that deals with transaction value of more than two thousand crore rupees will require Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) approval.
