India achieves milestone - 50% Villages now ODF Plus Under SBM-G Phase II 

The country has achieved yet another major milestone under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G) with half of the total villages in the country i.e., 50% villages achieving ODF Plus status under phase II of the Mission.

An ODF Plus village is one which has sustained its Open Defecation Free (ODF) status along with implementing either solid or liquid waste management systems.

As on date, more than 2.96 lakh villages have declared themselves ODF Plus, which is a significant step towards achieving the SBM-G phase II goals by 2024-25.

ODF Plus Villages: Top performing states 

The top performing states in terms of percentage of ODF Plus villages are - Telangana (100%), Karnataka (99.5%), Tamil Nadu (97.8%) & Uttar Pradesh (95.2%) among the big states and Goa (95.3%) and Sikkim (69.2%) among small states, are the top performer.

Among UTs – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra Nagar Havelli & Daman Diu and Lakshadweep have 100% ODF Plus Model villages. These States & UTs have shown remarkable progress in achieving the ODF Plus status, and their efforts have been instrumental in reaching this milestone.


35th edition of Indo-Thai Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) held in Andaman Sea 

The 35th edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy was conducted from 03 – 10 May 2023.

35th Indo-Thai CORPAT: Participate by

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kesari, an indigenously built LST (L) and His Thai Majesty’s Ship (HTMS) Saiburi, a Chao Phraya Class Frigate, along with Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both navies participated in the CORPAT along the IMBL in the Andaman Sea.

35th Indo-Thai CORPAT 2023: Key Highlights 

Towards reinforcing maritime linkages between the two countries and with an aim of keeping this vital part of the Indian Ocean safe and secure for international trade, the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy have been undertaking CORPAT bi-annually since 2005 along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

The 35th Indo-Thai CORPAT is another step towards enhancing Indian Navy’s efforts to consolidate inter-operability and forge strong bonds of friendship between India and Thailand.


6th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment held in Ottawa 

The sixth India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) was held in Ottawa.

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Government of India along with Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Government of Canada, co-chaired the sixth India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI).

The two sides agreed to explore enhanced cooperation through measures such as coordinated investment promotion, information exchange and mutual support between the two parties in near future through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) preferably in Fall of 2023.


India's first pod taxi to be launched in Uttar Pradesh soon 

India is all set to launch its first-ever pod taxi soon, which will run from Noida's Film City to the International Airport in Jewar Uttar Pradesh.

As per the Uttar Pradesh Index, the Yamuna Authority has approved the revised detailed project report (DPR) and bid document for the country's first Personalised Rapid Transit project.

This development has allowed the construction to commence with the Uttar Pradesh government's permission, and the tendering process is expected to start soon.


Indian Maritime University announces registrations for 2024-25 

The Indian Maritime University has announced registrations for admission to the programs for the academic year 2024-25 students can register themselves till the 17th of May.

The University has branches in Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Sewri Mumbai, and Vishakapatnam and it also has 17 maritime training institutes which are currently affiliated with the University.


Health Ministry launches SAKSHAM Learning Management Information System 

Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary launched the SAKSHAM (Stimulating Advanced Knowledge for Sustainable Health Management), a Learning Management Information System (LMIS) of MoHFW. This digital learning platform has been developed by the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.

About SAKSHAM  

SAKSHAM is a dedicated and unified platform for providing online training and medical education to all health professionals in the country. This digital learning platform will ensure inclusive capacity building of health professionals from primary health centres located in rural and remote areas all the way up to tertiary care and corporate hospitals in metropolitan cities. Currently SAKSHAM: LMIS is hosting more than 200 public health and 100 clinical courses through online mode.


Govt launches Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi to ensure Early Childhood Care & Education 

The Ministry of Women and Child Development’s (MCWD) launched 'Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi', a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen India's early childhood care and education in the country. This unique initiative is aimed at ensuring that India has a high-quality preschool network.

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), is a significant component of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 (Mission Poshan 2.0) and is envisaged under the National Education Policy.


Sarbananda Sonowal launches ‘Harit Sagar’ the Green Port Guidelines 2023 

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways has launched ‘Harit Sagar’ the Green Port Guidelines. The guidelines were launched by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways.

Harit Sagar Guidelines - 2023 envisages ecosystem dynamics in port development, operation and maintenance while aligning with ’Working with Nature’ concept and minimizing impact on biotic components of harbor ecosystem. It lays emphasis on use of Clean / Green energy in Port operation, developing Port capabilities for storage, handling and bunkering Greener Fuels viz. Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, Green Methanol / Ethanol etc.

These Guidelines provides a framework for the Major Ports for drawing out a comprehensive action plan for achieving targeted outcomes in terms of quantified reduction in carbon emission over defined timelines, through focused implementation and close monitoring of Green Initiatives and to achieve Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG).


PM Modi to inaugurate the programme marking National Technology Day 2023 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the programme marking National Technology Day 2023, at Pragati Maidan, on 11th May. The programme will also mark the commencement of celebration of the 25th year of National Technology Day, which will be held from 11th to 14th May.

National Technology Day 2023: Key Highlights 

On this momentous occasion, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone and dedicate to the nation multiple projects related to scientific and technological advancement in the country, worth more than Rs 5800 crore.

The projects whose foundation stone would be laid include Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory – India (LIGO-India), Hingoli; Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Jatni, Odisha; and Platinum Jubilee Block of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

LIGO-India, to be developed in Hingoli, Maharashtra, will be one of the handful Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave observatories in the world. It is an extremely sensitive interferometer of 4 km arm length capable of sensing gravitational waves generated during the merger of massive astrophysical objects such as black holes, and neutron stars. 

The LIGO-India will work in synchronisation with two such observatories operating in the United States; one in Hanford, Washington and the other in Livingston, Louisiana.


PM Modi lays foundation stone of various infrastructure projects in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation projects worth over Rs. 5500 crores in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. 

The development projects focus on bolstering infrastructure and connectivity in the region where the railway and road projects will facilitate the movement of goods and services, thereby boosting trade and commerce and improving the socio-economic conditions of the people in the region.

Key Highlights 

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for road construction projects for upgradation to two-lanes in Rajsamand and Udaipur. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Udaipur railway station, to provide enhanced amenities for the public. He also laid the foundation stone for the gauge conversion project and for setting up a new line from Nathdwara to Nathdwara town in Rajsamand.

Prime Minister Modi also dedicated three national highway projects to the nation, including 114 km long six-lane Udaipur to Shamlaji section of NH-48; 110 km long widening and strengthening to 4 lanes with paved shoulder of Bar-Bilara-Jodhpur Section of NH-25; and 47 km long two lanes with paved shoulder section of NH 58E.
