Manoj Soni takes oath as UPSC Chairman 

Dr Manoj Soni took the Oath of Office and Secrecy as Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Oath was administered by Smt. Smita Nagaraj, senior most Member of the Commission.

Manoj Soni joined the Commission as Member on 28.06.2017 and was later on appointed to perform the duties of the post of Chairman, UPSC under Article 316 (A) of the Constitution of India w.e.f. 05.04.2022.

About UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni 

Prior to joining UPSC, Dr Soni studied Political Science with specialization in International Relation Studies and earned doctorate in “ Post-Cold War International Systemic Transition and Indo-US Relations” from Sardar Patel University.

International Museum Expo 2023 to be held in New Delhi from 18 - 20 May 

The Museums Division of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organising a three-day International Museum Expo 2023 from 18th - 20th May, 2023 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

International Museum Expo 2023: Objective  

The main objectives of International Museum Expo 2023 is are to :Showcase the museums in India along with their hero objects & other art crafts, Educate & sensitive the audiences on Museology, Conservation, Heritage etc., as well as accurate a learning experience for those who wish to develop new museums or upgrade existing ones, and to celebrate the International Museum Day under the theme ''Museums, Sustainability and Well Being''.

PM Modi to inaugurate the International Museum Expo 2023 on 18th May

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the International Museum Expo 2023 on 18th May at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The International Museum Expo is being organised as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate the 47th International Museum Day (IMD). The 47th International Museum Day theme for this year is ‘Museums, Sustainability and Well Being’.


RBI imposes ₹10,000 penalty on Manipur Rural Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹10,000/- (Rupees Ten thousand only) on Manipur Rural Bank, Imphal for contravention of/non-adherence with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Strengthening of Prudential Norms - Provisioning, Asset Classification and Exposure Limit’ and ‘Regional Rural Banks - Income Recognition, Asset Classification and Provisioning Norms - Non-Performing Assets (NPAs)’.


Govt launches Citizen Centric Portal, Sanchar Saathi to block and trace lost mobile phones 

Union Minister for Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw launched a Citizen Centric Portal named Sanchar Saathi Portal at a function in New Delhi through which mobile users can now track and block their lost mobile phones.

The Sanchar Saathi Portal empowers the citizens by allowing them to know the mobile connections issued in their names, get the connections not required by them disconnected and to block and trace the lost mobile phones.


President Droupadi Murmu appoints Dharmesh Sharma as Additional Judge of Delhi HC 

The Union Government has notified the appointment of judicial officer Dharmesh Sharma as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court.

In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President Smt. Droupadi Murmu is pleased to appoint Dharmesh Sharma, Judicial Officer as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court for a period of two years, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.


India and EU affirm commitment to work together on WTO reforms

Union Minister for Commerce Piyush Goyal and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for an Economy that Works for People, and the European Commissioner for Trade, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis emphasised on the need for expediting the ongoing India-EU FTA negotiations by finding convergence on all issues. 

This was discussed during the bilateral meeting between the leaders on the sidelines of the first Ministerial meeting of India-European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC).

Both sides also affirmed their commitment to work together on common priorities for WTO reforms including issues pertaining to dispute resolution mechanism, subsidies on agriculture and fisheries, ecommerce moratorium as well as domestic legislations. 

Both sides recognised the need to build on their common goals to pursue consensus-based solutions that would support the livelihoods and food security for millions in India as well as in large parts of the developing world.


India – Bangladesh launches 50 Start-ups Exchange Programme 

The first group of 10 start-up companies under the 50 start-ups exchange programme between India and Bangladesh returned to Dhaka after completing a successful five-day visit to India from 8th to 12th May 2023.

These Start-ups belong to sectors such as e-commerce, health, transport and logistics, energy, education and skill development.

Under this programme, 50 start-ups from Bangladesh and 50 start-ups from India will visit each other's countries to explore partnerships, expand business ties, share experience and knowledge and expand youth and entrepreneurial collaboration.


Sagar Parikrama Phase V to be held in Raigad to Canacona from 17th-19th May 

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has announced the commencement of Phase-V of the Sagar Parikrama initiative.

Sagar Parikrama Phase V: Key Highlights 

Starting from Raigad, Maharashtra on 17th May 2023 and ending in Canacona, Goa in 19th May 2023, the journey aims to address the challenges faced by fishers and stakeholders while uplifting their economic prospects through various fisheries schemes and programs, such as Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) & Kisan Credit Cards (KCC).

Having successfully completed four phases, covering 19 locations in Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, this unprecedented initiative continues to garner support from all stakeholders.

The Phase-V journey will encompass six locations across the states of Maharashtra and Goa: Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg Districts in Maharashtra, and Vasco, Mormugao, and Canacona in Goa.


Uttarakhand Shree Anna Mahotsav 2023 Concludes in Dehradun 

The closing ceremony of the four-day long Uttarakhand Shri Ann Mahotsav 2023 (millet festival) took place in Dehradun under the chief hospitality of the Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

The Uttarakhand Shri Ann Mahotsav (millet festival) is aimed at attracting more and more people towards millet production, which is to be doubled by 2025.

Jal Jeevan Mission Achieves Milestone of 12 Crore Tap Water Connections

Under Azadi ka Amrit Kaal, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) celebrates a new milestone of ensuring safe and clean drinking water through taps to more than 12 Crore rural households of the country.

Jal Jeevan Mission: Key Highlights 

5 States (Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat and Punjab) and 3 UTs (Puducherry, Daman and Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and A&N Islands), have reported 100% coverage. Himachal Pradesh at 98.35%, followed by Bihar at 96.05%, are also poised to achieve saturation in the near future. Goa, Haryana, Punjab, A&N Islands, Puducherry, D&NH and D&D are ‘Har Ghar Jal certified States/ UTs i.e., in these states/ UTs, the villagers have confirmed through Gram Sabhas that ‘all households and public institutions’ in the village are getting adequate, safe and regular supply of water.
