RBI to withdraw ₹2,000 notes from circulation, will continue as legal tender 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to withdraw ₹2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation and asked everyone to exchange them by September 30, 2023. However, ₹2,000 notes will continue to be legal tender.

RBI to withdraw ₹2,000 notes from circulation: Key Highlights 

The decision was taken as per the ‘Clean Note Policy’ of the central bank. The people may deposit ₹2000 banknotes into their bank accounts and/or exchange them into banknotes of other denominations at any bank branch.

The facility for exchange of ₹2000 banknotes up to the limit of ₹20,000/- at a time at any bank starting from May 23, 2023. The Reserve Bank of India has advised banks to stop issuing ₹2000 denomination banknotes with immediate effect.


President Draupadi Murmu appoints 2 judges to the Supreme Court 

The President of India Smt. Draupati Murmu appointed 2 new judges to the Supreme Court. The two judges appointed to the Supreme Court are as follows.
  1. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court
  2. Kalpathy Venkataraman Viswanathan, Senior Advocate

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President of India is pleased to appoint (i) Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and (ii) Kalpathy Venkataraman Viswanathan, Senior Advocate, to be Judges of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date they assume charge of their office.


President Draupadi Murmu appoints 4 additional judges in the Madras HC 

The President of India Smt. Draupati Murmu appointed 4 additional judges to the Madras High Court. The 4 additional judges appointed to the Madras HC are as follows. 
  1. Ramasamy Sakthivel
  2. P. Dhanabal
  3. Chinnasamy Kumarappan
  4. Kandasamy Rajasekar

In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Ramasamy Sakthivel, (ii) P. Dhanabal, (iii) Chinnasamy Kumarappan and (iv) Kandasamy Rajasekar, Judicial Officers as Additional Judges of the Madras High Court for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.


Union Minister Kiren Rijiju takes charge of the Ministry of Earth Sciences

Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju took charge of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal has been given the charge of Law Ministry in addition to his existing portfolios.

Meghwal replaces Union Minister Kiren Rijiju who has now been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

President Droupadi Murmu has given permission to reshuffle the ministries on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


Ministry of Education and World Bank organise workshop on School-to-Work  

Ministry of Education and World Bank organised a one of its kind workshop on School-to-Work Transition under the STARS Program in Mumbai.

The workshop was also attended by the Secretaries of Education and Skill Department of the six STARS states i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh along with the State Project Directors of Samagra Shiksha, respective officers, and representatives from the World Bank.

The workshop focussed on discussion on a Skill Gap analysis of the six STARS States and Uttar Pradesh along with convergence of vocational and skill.


Second G20 Trade and Investment Working Group Meeting to be held in Bengaluru from 23-25 May 

The 2nd Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) meeting, under India’s G20 Presidency, is being organised in Bengaluru from May 23rd - 25th, 2023.

The meeting will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Smt. Anupriya Patel on May 24th, 2023.

During this three-day meeting, over 100 delegates from G20 member countries, invitee countries, regional groupings and international organizations will deliberate on reforming the multilateral trading system, integrating MSMEs in global trade, resilient GVCs, making trade work for growth and prosperity, and efficient logistics for trade.


Third G20 Tourism meeting to be held in Srinagar from 22nd to 24th May 

The third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting will be held in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir from 22nd to 24th May 2023.

Under India’s G20 Tourism Track, the Tourism Working Group is working on five inter-connected priority areas, which are Green Tourism; Digitalization; Skills ; MSMEs ; Destination These priorities are key building blocks for accelerating the transition of the tourism sector and achieving the targets for 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


VP Jagdeep Dhankhar to visit Kerala on 21-22 May

The Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar will be on his maiden two day visit to Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram & Kannur) on May 21-22, 2023. On May 21st, the Vice-President will offer prayers at Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, Thiruvananthapuram.

VP Dhankhar to inaugurate Silver Jubilee Celebration of Kerala Legislative Assembly building 

On May 22nd, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Kerala Legislative Assembly building in Thiruvananthapuram, where he will address the gathering and release a Souvenir of Kerala Legislature International Book Festival – 2023. The Legislative Assembly building was inaugurated on 22nd May 1998 by the former President of India, late K.R. Narayanan.

VP Dhankhar to visit Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will visit the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kannur, where he will interact with the cadets. This marks the first visit by any Vice-President of India to the INA.
