India achieves 47% growth in Coal Production in last Nine Years
India’s overall coal production has gone up by 47% to 893.08 Million Tonne (MT) and supply has touched 877.74 Million tonne, recording 45.37% growth in last nine years.
Major leap in coal production of 893.08 MT in FY 2023 is the highest in the history of the country.
EPFO adds 1.39 crore net members in the FY 2022-23
The provisional payroll data of EPFO released on 20th May, 2023 highlights that EPFO has added 13.40 lakh net members in the month of March, 2023. During the financial year 2022-23, around 1.39 crore net members have been added by EPFO with an increase of 13.22% compared to the previous financial year 2021-22 wherein EPFO had added approximately 1.22 crore net members.
Out of 13.40 lakh members added during the month, around 7.58 lakh new members have come under the ambit of EPFO for the first time. Among the newly joined members, highest enrolment is registered in the age-group of 18-21 years with 2.35 lakh members, followed by the age-group of 22-25 years with 1.94 lakh members.
The age-groups of 18-25 years constitute 56.60% of total new members added during the month. This age-wise comparison of payroll data indicates that the majority of the members joining the organised sector workforce of the country are first-time job seekers.

Telangana Home Minister Mohamood Ali launched SAHAS, an initiative towards making workplaces safer for women.
Aims
SAHAS, which means Courage, is a programme that aims at strengthening the support ecosystem for women who face workplace sexual harassment.
Under the initiative, the SAHAS Microsite, SAHAS Sathi Chatbot, SAHAS Whatsapp Number, Forum and online support facilities were launched in Hyderabad.
Assam Govt sign MoU for Riverine Based Religious Tourism Circuit to connect seven Religious places on Brahmaputra
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Guwahati, Assam for the development of ‘Riverine Based Religious Tourism Circuit’ among Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Sagarmala Development Corporation Limited (SDCL), Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and Department of Inland Waterways Transport (DIWT), Government of Assam.
Background
The MoU will facilitate modern ferry service on a ‘Hop On Hop Off’ among seven (07) historic religious sites around Guwahati. The seven religious sites are Kamakhya, Pandunath, Ashwalknata, Doul Govinda, Umananda, Chakreshwar and Auniati Satra to be covered with the help of this agreement. The waiting lounge at the ferry terminal will be a modern facility providing comfortable ambience for the passengers.
The project, executed via a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), is likely to be completed with an investment of ₹45 crores and will be completed within 12 months. The circuit will sail from Hanuman Ghat, Uzan Bazar and the ferry service is expected to reduce the overall travel time to less than 2 hours for completing one complete circuit.
SDCL and IWAI will jointly contribute 55% of the project cost while the remaining will be provided by ATDC. DIWT has consented to provide the usage of Ghats near the temples free of cost for the project.

Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship awarded to 300 students across Sri Lanka
Three hundred school students from all 25 districts across Sri Lanka have received the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Scholarships.
Key Highlights
The scholarship provides 2500 Lankan rupees per student every month to the top six students from each district, based on merit cum means. This year, two batches of scholarships were awarded simultaneously to compensate for the disruptions caused by COVID-19 during the 2021-2022 period.
High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Education, Dr. Susil Premajayantha, and State Minister of Education A. Aravindh Kumar presented the scholarships to the students.
