RBI imposes ₹84.50 lakh penalty on Central Bank of India  

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹84.50 lakh (Rupees Eighty four lakh fifty thousand only) on Central Bank of India.

The penalty was imposed due to the bank's failure to comply with certain provisions outlined in the 'Reserve Bank of India (Frauds classification and reporting by commercial banks and select FIs) directions 2016' and the 'Master Circular on Customer Service in Banks'.


RBI cancels Certificate of Registration of one NBFC 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the Certificate of Registration of the following NBFC company.
  1. New Link Overseas Finance Limited
Thus now this company will not do business of any non-banking financial institution.


Mumbai to host first ever 'Mining Start-up Summit' on 29 May 2023  

India’s commercial capital, Mumbai, is all set to host the country’s first ever 'Mining Start-up Summit' on 29th May 2023. The summit is being organised in collaboration with IIT Bombay.

The 'Mining Start-up Summit' focused on innovation and technology, this will support and improve performance, safety and autonomy in the mining and metallurgy sector.


India to host 14th Clean Energy Ministerial meeting to be held in Goa from 19-22 July 

The 14th Clean Energy Ministerial and 8th Mission Innovation meeting (CEM14/MI-8) will be held in Goa from 19th to 22nd of July, 2023.

Scheduled on the margins of the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting, the theme for CEM-14 / MI-8 is "Advancing Clean Energy Together".

Under the theme of " Advancing Clean Energy Together", high-level roundtables, side-events and technology showcases would enable stakeholders to accelerate the deployment of clean energy by encouraging development of policies and programmes which advance clean energy technology and solutions around the world.

Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM)

The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) was established in 2009 as a high-level global forum to promote policies and programmes that advance clean energy technology, to share lessons learned and best practices, and to encourage the transition to a global clean energy economy. 

Initiatives are based on areas of common interest among participating governments and other stakeholders. The Framework for the Clean Energy Ministerial, reaffirmed at the twelfth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2021, defines the CEM governance structure and outlines the mission statement, objectives, membership, and guiding principles. The CEM is an international clean energy leadership platform, a convening platform, an action platform, and an acceleration platform.

Mission Innovation (MI) 

Mission Innovation (MI) is a Ministerial-level global forum of 23 Countries and the European Commission (on behalf of the European Union) to accelerate Clean Energy revolution and progress towards the Paris Agreement goals and pathways to Net Zero. 

The main objective of MI is to catalyse a decade of action and investment in research, development and demonstration to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all. 

It does this by taking steps to accelerate clean energy innovation to mobilise low-cost finance by international partners, enhance private sector investments and demand for clean technologies that advances R&D of clean energy technology.


President Droupadi Murmu appoints two Chief Justice of various High Court 

In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 217 of the Constitution of India, President Droupadi Murmu is pleased to appoint the following Judges as Chief Justice of various High Courts.

  1. Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala Gangapurwala, Judge, Bombay High Court appointed as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
  2. Ramesh Deokinandan Dhanuka, Judge, Bombay High Court appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.


3 Indian peacekeepers honoured with UN's Dag Hammarskjold medal 

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, received the Dag Hammarksjold Medals on behalf of Head Constables Shishupal Singh and Sanwala Ram Vishnoi.

Head Constables Shishupal Singh and Sanwala Ram Vishnoi of the Border Security Force lost their lives while serving under the UN flag last year in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. 

Shaber Taher Ali, employed in a civilian capacity with the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), was also posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjold Medal, which was received by Under-Secretary for Field Support, Atul Khare.

UN Dag Hammarksjold Medal

The Dag Hammarksjold Medal is the highest honour awarded to UN peacekeepers. It is awarded posthumously to members of peacekeeping operations as a tribute to the sacrifice of those who have lost their lives in peacekeeping operations. 

The medal is named after the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dag Hammarskjold.


King of Cambodia to be on a state visit to India 

The King of Cambodia, Preah Bat Samdech Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni will embark on his first official visit to India from 29th to 31st May 2023.

The Cambodian King will arrive in New Delhi for a two-day May 29 to 31 official tour whereby he will be accompanied by a 27-member high-level official delegation.

National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and IIT Guwahati signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through a Video Conferencing.

This collaboration aims to leverage the expertise of IIT Guwahati, a prestigious institute known for its contributions to civil engineering, road construction, planning, and design, to facilitate research and development (R&D) in these areas.
