Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood appointed as next Director of CBI
Praveen Sood appointed as new CBI Director: Karnataka director general of police (DGP) Praveen Sood has been appointed as the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years. Sood is currently serving as the Director General of Police of Karnataka.
Praveen Sood will succeed incumbent CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal who will completes his tenure on 25 May 2023.
Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Karnataka cadre.
According to the government order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Praveen Sood’s name based on the panel recommended by the committee as the CBI chief for two years.

A panel comprising PM Modi, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and the leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had shortlisted the names of three senior IPS officers for the post of CBI director and the recommendation was sent to the ACC.
3rd CBI chief from Karnataka cadre
Praveen Sood is the third IPS officer from Karnataka cadre to be appointed as the CBI chief. The other two were Joginder Singh who was the CBI director for between 1996-97 and D R Karthikeyan who was the CBI chief for between 31 January 1998 to 31 March 1998.
About new CBI Director Praveen Sood
Praveen Sood, born in 1964, graduated from IIT Delhi, joined IPS in 1986 and started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mysore in 1989. He served as Superintendent of Police, Bellary and Raichur before getting posted to Bangalore city as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.

In 1999, Praveen went on foreign deputation as Police Advisor to the Government of Mauritius for 3 years. During his tenure in Mauritius he got a chance to come in contact with European and American police.
Currently, Praveen Sood was serving as Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police, (Head of Police Force) Karnataka.
