India - Malaysia Sign MoU to enhance Co-operation in the Field of Tourism

India and Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance co-operation in the field of tourism. The MoU aims to promote market tourism products and services between India and Malaysia and expand cooperation in the field of tourism research, training and development, including exchange programmes. In the year 2022, over 2.5 lacs Malaysian tourists visited India.

India and Malaysia Sign Agreement for Co-operation in the Field of Tourism

India and Malaysia have signed an agreement between the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Government of Malaysia for strengthening co-operation in the field of tourism.

Background

India and Malaysia Tourism MoU was signed on 20th August 2024 between Minister of Tourism and Culture from India Ganjendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia Y B Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

India - Malaysia Tourism MoU: Objective

The main objectives of the India-Malaysia Tourism Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are as follows:

  • The MoU focuses on the promotion and marketing of tourism products and services.
  • The MoU covers expansion in the field of tourism research, training and development, including exchange programmes.
  • The agreement encourages investments in tourism infrastructure, facilities, products and services.
  • The MoU includes encouraging stakeholders to exchange information and promote products in the field of medical tourism.
  • The MoU is based on business tourism, including meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions (MICE).
  • This MoU will promote cooperation among tourism stakeholders, tour operators and travel agents.
  • The MoU is based on promotion and development of community based tourism, eco-tourism and responsible tourism.

Malaysia is one of the important inbound tourist source markets for India. In the year 2022, over 2.5 lacs Malaysian tourists visited India. It is hoped that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will further boost tourist arrivals from Malaysia.
