The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Dr. Ajit Ratnakar Joshi as Executive Director (ED) with effect from March 03, 2025. As Executive Director of RBI, Dr. Joshi will look after the Department of Statistics and Information Management and Financial Stability Department. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Joshi was working as Principal Advisor in the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

Dr. Ajit Ratnakar Joshi Appointed As New Executive Director of RBI
Dr. Ajit Ratnakar Joshi has been appointed as the new Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Prior to being promoted as Executive Director of RBI, Dr. Joshi was serving as Principal Adviser in the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

Ajit Ratnakar Joshi took over the appointment of new Executive Director (ED) of RBI at Mumbai with effect from 3rd March 2025.
About Ajit Ratnakar Joshi Executive Director of RBI
Ajit Ratnakar Joshi has experience of over three decades in the areas of statistics, information technology, and cyber risk management.
Joshi also served as a member of faculty at the Institute of Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad. He has also served as member of several committees and working groups relating to compilation of macroeconomic statistics and policy issues.
Ajit Ratnakar Joshi: Educational Life
Dr. Ajit Ratnakar Joshi has a master’s degree in statistics from Nagpur University, Ph.D. in monetary economics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi and is a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).
Roles and Responsibilities of Executive Director of RBI
As Executive Director of RBI, Ajit Ratnakar Joshi will handle the roles and responsibilities of Department of Statistics and Information Management and Department of Financial Stability.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
The Reserve Bank of India was established on April 1, 1935 according to the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The headquarters of the Reserve Bank was initially established in Kolkata but was permanently moved to Mumbai in 1937.

Initially the bank was privately owned, but since nationalization in 1949 it is fully owned by the Government of India.
