India, Bangladesh to set up Joint Technical committee for optimum utilisation of Ganges water

At a Secretary-level meeting in Dhaka, and Bangladesh have agreed to set up a Joint Technical committee for optimum utilisation of Ganges water as being received by Bangladesh under the Ganga Water Sharing Treaty 1996.

Water Resources Secretary Upendra Prasad Singh led the Indian delegation in the talks while the Bangladesh side was led by his counterpart Kabir Bin Anwar.

Both the countries also agreed to prepare a framework for interim water-sharing agreement for eight rivers including Feni, Gumti and Teesta.

Ghotu Ram Meena appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Congo

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India(GoI), Ghotu Ram Meena has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Congo.

He is presently serving as Counsellor, Embassy of India, Kyiv, Ukraine Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He replaces Ms. Nina Tshering La.

MSCI added HDFC Life Insurance to its Global Standard Index

MSCI Inc( Morgan Stanley Capital International), One of the world’s biggest index compilers, has added HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. to its Global Standard Index and removed Union Bank of India(UBI) from its India Smallcap Index.

These changes will be effective from the closing hours of August 27.

MSCI had deleted 10 stocks in May 2019, including RCom, RPower and Asahi India Glass from its Smallcap index and added 12 including AstraZeneca Pharma, Balrampur Chini, BEML, Chalet Hotels, Essel Propack, L&T Technologies, Linde India, Maharashtra Scooters, OIL India, TCNS Clothing and Ujjivan Financial.

Sonia Gandhi chosen as Interim Chief of Congress

The Congress Working Committee (CWC), named Sonia Gandhi interim president of the Congress Party. Sonia Gandhi, aged 72, as interim president of the Congress party.

She had held the post of Congress President between 1998 and 2017. She succeeds Rahul Gandhi.
