Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launches Ganga Aamantran Abhiyan

Ganga Aamantran Abhiyan: Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has launched Ganga Aamantran Abhiyan, a unique open-water rafting and kayaking expedition on the Ganga River to create awareness on Ganga rejuvenation and water conservation.

The ‘Ganga Aamantran Abhiyan’ is a pioneering and historic exploratory open-water rafting and kayaking expedition on the Ganga River to be held between 10th October 2019 to 11 November 2019. Starting at Devprayag and culminating at Ganga Sagar, the expedition will cover the entire stretch of over 2500 kms of the Ganga River.


This is the first ever effort by National Mission for Clean Ganga to raft across the entire stretch of the river and also the longest ever social campaign undertaken through an adventure sporting activity to spread the message of River Rejuvenation and Water Conservation on a massive scale. The expedition will draw attention to the ecological challenges being faced by Ganga.

Ganga Aamantran Abhiyan Highlights With Details:

The expedition will encompass the five Ganga basin states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal with stops at Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Sonepur and Kolkata.

The expedition will be undertaken by a nine-member team comprising rafters and swimmers of the Indian Armed Forces, led by international open-water swimmer Wing Commander Paramvir Singh from the Indian Air Force.

They will be joined by 3 members from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 2 members each from Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and CSIR-IITR. ......Read More


Ministry of Tourism organises first of its kind Adventure Trekking Training course in Ladakh

Ministry of Tourism organises first of its kind Adventure Trekking Training course in Ladakh, this 10 days training course trains local youth in various aspects of mountain trekking and also gives them hands on experience.

Over 30 local youth enrolled in the first batch which started on 24th September 2019. Approximately 90 local youth will be trained in three batches.

The training programmes will be completed by 12th October 2019. The trekking programme starts with a briefing and the participants cover places like Spithuk, Then, Zinchen, Rumbak, Stok la Base, Stock within 10 days and will return to Leh.


This training program is aimed at developing the basic skills of Trekking in the youth who can later use these skills for becoming guides or entrepreneurs in future.......Read More


Vice President Venkaiah Naidu to embark on a two-nation tour to Africa


This will be the first-ever visit by such a high-level Indian dignitary to Comoros, an archipelago situated off the Southeast coast of Africa and to Sierra Leone.

After arrival in Moroni, the capital of Comoros, Shri Naidu will meet President of the Union of Comoros, Mr. Azali Assoumani. Later, Shri Naidu will address the Indian community living in Comoros.

On October 11, the Vice President will hold delegation-level talks with the President of the Union of Comoros. Subsequently, both the dignitaries will witness the signing of agreements in various areas between the countries. They will also issue press statements following a tête-à-tête between them.


During his visit to the Island nation, Shri Naidu will also interact with the President of the Assembly of the Union of Comoros, Mr. Abdou Ousseni and address the Parliament (Assembly of the Union of Comoros) before departing to Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone.

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2019: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2019 was awarded jointly to William G. Kaelin Jr, Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and Gregg L. Semenza "for their discoveries of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability."

 They identified molecular machinery that regulates the activity of genes in response to varying levels of oxygen.

They established the basis for our understanding of how oxygen levels affect cellular metabolism and physiological function. Their discoveries have also paved the way for promising new strategies to fight anemia, cancer and many other diseases.
