  • The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2018 is awarded to the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk “for a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a form of life.”

2. Nobel Prize in Literature for 2019 is awarded to the Austrian author Peter Handke
  • The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2019 is awarded to the Austrian author Peter Handke “for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the specificity of human experience.”

3. India France 2nd Annual Defence Dialogue held in Paris
  • Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and French Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly held the second ministerial-level Annual Defence Dialogue between the two countries in Paris, France.

4. Cabinet approves MoUs between India, foreign broadcasters in the field of Radio and Television
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given ex-post facto approval for the MoUs between India and Foreign Broadcasters in the field of Radio and Television to facilitate exchanges of technical expertise and training of manpower to meet emerging challenges in broadcasting.

5. Cabinet approves 5% hikes additional dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners
  • The Union Cabinet Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved to dearness allowance (DA) by 5% in a move that will benefit about 50 lakh Central Government employees and 65 lakh pensioners.
  • The hike, based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • The Union Cabinet has approved a 5 percent hike in the dearness allowance (DA) provided to central government employees and dearness relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 1, 2019.

6. Harsh Vardhan launches WHO India Country Cooperation Strategy 2019–2023
  • Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan launched ‘The WHO India Country Cooperation Strategy 2019–2023: A Time of Transition’, in New Delhi.
  • The Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) provides a strategic roadmap for WHO to work with the Government of India towards achieving its health sector goals, in improving the health of its population and bringing in transformative changes in the health sector.

7. Piyush Goyal to Attend 9th RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting in Thailand
  • Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyalwill attend the 9th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Intersessional Ministerial meetingto be held on 11-12 October 2019at Bangkok in Thailand.
  • The 9th Intersessional Ministerial Meeting comes at a crucial stage where the RCEP is scheduled to be announced as concluded in November 2019.
