President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Sheel Nagu as the new Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Sheel Nagu has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Nagu replaces Justice Ravi Shankar Jha, who has retired.
Prior to assuming the present appointment, Sheel Nagu was serving as the Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Justice Ritu Bahri was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court after the retirement of Justice Ravi Shankar Jha. After her promotion, the post of Chief Justice again became vacant. Subsequently, the senior-most judge Justice GS Sandhawalia was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice.

After the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, the Central Government has now issued a notification appointing Madhya Pradesh High Court Judge Sheel Nagu as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
“The President of India, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, appointed Sheel Nagu, Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana with effect from the date he assumed charge of his office.”
About Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu
Justice Nagu was born on January 1, 1965. He holds B,Com and LLB degrees. He was enrolled as Advocate on October 5, 1987 and practised on Civil and Constitutional sides in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur.
Sheel Nagu was appointed as Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on May 27, 2011 and Permanent Judge on May 23rd 2013.
