Army chief General Bipin Rawat became India’s 1st Chief of Defence Staff


The CDS is a 4-star single-point military adviser to function as a single-point adviser to the government on matters related to the military and will focus on better synergy between the Army, Air Force and the Navy.

 General Bipin Rawat will retire as Army Chief today (31st December 2019).

The Chief of Defence Staff will also head the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), to be created within the Ministry of Defence and function as its Secretary.

The following areas will be dealt by the Department of Military Affairs headed by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS):

  • The Armed Forces of the Union, namely, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.
  • Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence comprising Army Headquarters, Naval Headquarters, Air Headquarters and Defence Staff Headquarters.
  • The Territorial Army.

Minister Prakash Javadekar released "India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2019" in New Delhi


The Report Published By:

The report is published by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) which has been mandated to assess the forest and tree resources of the country including wall-to-wall forest cover mapping in a biennial cycle. Starting 1987, 16 assessment have been completed so far. 

  ISFR 2019 is the 16th report in the series.

In the present assessment, the total forest and tree cover of the country is 80.73 million hectare which is 24.56 percent of the geographical area of the country.

The Environment Minister further said that as compared to the assessment of 2017, there is an increase of 5,188 sq. km in the total forest and tree cover of the country.

Out of this, the increase in the forest cover has been observed as 3,976 sq km and that in tree cover is 1,212 sq. km; Range increase in forest cover has been observed in open forest followed by very dense forest and moderately dense forest and the top three states showing increase in forest cover are Karnataka (1,025 sq. km) followed by Andhra Pradesh (990 sq km) and Kerala (823 sq km)......Read More



Indian Railways to Launch Tejas Express on Ahmedabad-Mumbai Route: IRCTC 

Tejas Express on Ahmedabad-Mumbai Route: After the successful run of Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, the second premium Tejas train is ready to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

The inaugural run of this second Tejas Train will be flagged off from Ahmedabad on 17th January, 2020. The commercial run of the train will start with effect from 19th January, 2020 from Ahmedabad.
