President Kovind nominates former CJI Ranjan Gogoi to Rajya Sabha
President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha. According to a notification issued by the central government late Monday evening, President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha.
He is the third Supreme Court justice to serve in the Rajya Sabha, and the first to be nominated to his seat, after Ranganath Mishra and Baharul Islam, who were elected as members of the Indian National Congress.
Mr Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from 3rd October 2018 till 17th November last year.
Justice Ranjan Gogoi heard many important cases and pronounced the verdict. He is always remembered for passing judgment on matters like Ayodhya case, bringing the office of Chief Justice under the purview of RTI, banning Rafael Deal, Sabarimala temple and publishing photographs of leaders in government advertisements.
