I. 5th Joint Working Group on Coal held virtually between India and Indonesia
  1. India successfully hosted the 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Coal between India and Indonesia through Video conference from New Delhi due to travel restrictions on account of Covid-19 pandemic.
  2. The JWG was co-chaired from the Indian side by Shri Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India and by Mr. Jonson Pakpahan, Director for Mineral and Coal, Non Tax State Revenue of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Republic of Indonesia, from the Indonesian side.


II. PM Narendra Modi to chair Virtual Global Investor meet
  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the Virtual Global Investor Roundtable (VGIR) on 5th November, 2020.
  2. The VGIR is being organized by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and National Investment and Infrastructure Fund. It is an exclusive dialogue between leading global institutional investors, Indian business leaders and the highest decision makers from the Government of India and Financial Market Regulators.


III. UGC Issues Guidelines for Re-opening Colleges and Universities: Highlights with Details
  1. The University Grants Commission(UGC) has framed Guidelines for the universities and colleges for reopening their campuses.
  2. These Guidelines have been vetted by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education. The Guidelines may be adopted by the institutions as per the local conditions and directives of the Government authorities.


IV. Bangladesh signs MoU with Indian Company for collecting 3 crore COVID 19 vaccine doses
  1. An MoU was signed on Thursday between the government of Bangladesh, Beximco Pharmaceutical Ltd and the Serum Institute of India (SII) for priority delivery of 3 crore COVID 19 vaccine doses.
  2. Health Minister of Bangladesh Zahid Maleque and High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami were present on the occasion along with other senior officials of the Health Ministry of Bangladesh and the two companies.


V. PM Modi to address the 51st Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi on November 7
  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the Chief Guest at the 51st Annual Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi and will address the Convocation on 7th November at 11 AM via video conferencing.


VI. Vice President launches ‘International Satavadhanam’ event, a unique literary feat
  1. The Vice President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu has observed that ‘avadhanam’ as a literary feat has greatly contributed to the Telugu language’s glorious tradition. ‘Avadhanam’ is like a test of the poet’s literary prowess and scholarship, he added. This extraordinary feat, a historical and unique feature of only a few languages, should be further promoted, the Vice President advised.
  2. The ‘International ‘Satavadhanam’’ program, launched virtually by the Vice President today, was organized by Dr. Medasani Mohan under the auspices of Sri Krishnadevaraya Satsang in Tirupati.


VII. Railways to resume suburban services in West Bengal from Nov 11
  1. Railways will resume suburban services in West Bengal from 11th of this month. 
  2. In a tweet, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the service will resume with adequate safety measures in place. He said, this will enhance passenger convenience and facilitate smooth travel for the people.


VIII. Government's Massive encouragement for ‘Other Service Provider’ Industry in BPO and ITeS Sectors
  1. With an aim to qualitatively improve the Ease of Doing Business of the IT Industry particularly Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT Enabled Services, the Government has drastically simplified the Other Service Provider(OSP) guidelines of the Department of Telecom. The new guidelines tremendously reduce the compliance burden of the BPO industry.


IX. RT-PCR tests conducted at National Archery camp in Pune
  1. As per the Standard Operating Procedures established by the Sports Authority of India, campers who are a part of the National Archery camp currently in progress at the Army Sports Institute, Pune were given a RT-PCR test to know their Covid-19 status. 
  2. Of the 23 campers who were tested, one Himani Malik tested positive for Covid-19 while the other 22 came negative. Malik is currently asymptomatic and has been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure.


X. IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 57 runs to enter finals
  1. IPL cricket, defending champions Mumbai Indians reached finals after thrashing Delhi Capitals by 57 runs in the first Qualifier in Dubai last night. Sent into bat first, Mumbai made a massive total of 200 for five in 20 overs.
  2. In reply, Delhi finished on 143 for 8 in the alloted 20 overs with the help of Marcus Stoinis 65 off 46.

  1. Tanzania Elections: President John Magufuli wins - John Pombe Magufuli is the newly elected President of Tanzania. He won the Presidential elections held in Tanzania with 58.46% votes under the CCM Party banner.
  2. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi congratulated H.E. John Pombe Magufuli for being sworn-in as President of Tanzania.
  3. The Prime Minister Modi said, " My congratulations to H.E. John Pombe Magufuli for being sworn-in as President of Tanzania! I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between our countries."
