I. Union Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju launches 2nd Edition of Fit India Cyclothon
  • Union Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju recently launched the second edition of Fit India Cyclothon via social media. The mega cycling event which starts on 7th December 2020 will run for 25 days till 31st December 2020.
  • Encouraging the citizens to take part in the mega event, Shri Rijiju tweeted “Cycling is a great way to stay fit & reduce carbon footprints. I invite all of you to the 2nd Fit India Cyclothon with your family & friends from Dec 7-31. Let's join the clarion call of PM @NarendraModi Ji 'Fitness Ka Dose Aadha Ghanta Roz' #NewIndiaFitIndia #FitIndiaMovement”


II. SJVN signs MoU with IREDA for Green Energy Projects
  • SJVN Limited, a PSU under Ministry of Power has entered an MoU with Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA). IREDA, a PSU under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, will provide its services to SJVN for Green Energy projects. 
  • The MoU was signed by Shri NandLal Sharma, CMD, SJVN and Shri Pradip Kumar Das, CMD, IREDA in the presence of Shri Akhileshwar Singh, Director (Finance), SJVN, Shri Surinder Pal Bansal, Director (Civil), SJVN, Shri Chintan Shah, Director (Technical), IREDA, and other senior officials today through virtual mode.


III. Two new Zoos one each in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh granted recognition by Central government
  • At the 37th General Body meeting of Central Zoo Authority chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar two new zoos the Rajgir Zoo Safari in Nalanda, Bihar and Shaheed Ashfaque Ullah Khan Prani Udyaan in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh were granted recognition.
  • The Environment Minister also applauded the good progress in developing a 10-year Vision Plan for the up-gradation of 15 select zoos in the country to global standards which is hoped to ‘twin’ top Indian and foreign zoos and also bring in the corporate sector to invest in modernization as part of this project.


IV. Central teams visit cyclone Nivar hit districts of Puducherry to assess damage
  • A four member Central team headed by Joint Secretary(Home) Ashutosh Agnihotri visited areas hit by cyclone Nivar in Puducherry and districts of Cuddalore and Villupuram.
  • They spoke to affected residents and inspected damages caused in these areas to crops and infrastructure.


V. Serum Institute of India applies for emergency approval of covid vaccine candidate ‘Covishield'
  • Serum Institute of India (SII) has applied for emergency approval of made-in-India covid vaccine candidate, Covishield. SII CEO Adar Poonawalla has confirmed it and said it will save countless lives.


VI. Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of AYUSH decides to set up an AYUSH Export Promotion Council
  • The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of AYUSH have decided to work together to set up an Export Promotion Council to boost AYUSH exports.
  • This decision was taken recently in a joint review of AYUSH trade and Industry by Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Shri Shripad Naik, Minister of AYUSH.


VII. UK to become first country to roll out Covid-19 vaccine
  • United Kingdom will become the first country today to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine. As per the government, the shots will be initially available at hospitals before distributing stocks to doctors' clinics.
