I. India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020 will be held in a Virtually format from 8th to 10th December
- The IMC 2020 is scheduled for 8th -10th December, and will be held virtually this year given the ongoing pandemic.
- This prestigious event, jointly organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAT), will see 50+ participating countries, 110 + Global Speakers , Start-ups, 30 plus hrs of content, with over 15000 expected visitors over the three day programme.
II. NTPC signs MoU with IIFM, Bhopal for Narmada Landscape Restoration Project
- NTPC Ltd., one of India’s largest integrated energy company and a PSU under Ministry of Power, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, on 4th December, to implement the Narmada Landscape Restoration Project.
- The program is in partnership with a grant in aid from NTPC Ltd and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in equal proportions.
III. Invest India wins United Nations Investment Promotion Award for 2020: Quick Highlights
- The United Nations (UNCTAD) has declared Invest India- the National Investment Promotion Agency of India- as a winner of the 2020 United Nations Investment Promotion Award. The award ceremony took place on 7th December 2020 at UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva.
- The award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements and best practices of Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) across the globe. The evaluation was based on UNCTAD’s assessment of work undertaken by 180 Investment Promotion Agencies.
IV. PM Narendra Modi inaugurates construction work of Agra Metro project in Agra
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated construction work of Agra Metro project in Agra, Uttar Pradesh today through video conference. Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, and other dignitaries attended the event.
- The Agra Metro project comprises 2 corridors with a total length of 29.4 km and connects major tourist attractions like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra with railway stations and bus stands. The project will benefit the 26 lakh population of the city of Agra and will also cater to more than 60 lakh tourists who visit Agra every year.
V. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga strengthening infrastructure to start virtual courses of Yoga
- Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi, is preparing to embrace the new norm of e-education and virtual learning in the post-Covid 19 scenario. A set of capacity building steps to enable the institute to design and run virtual courses and to substantially increase its internet presence were adopted in the recent meeting of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of MDNIY.
- Setting up digital studios from where live streaming as well as recording of yoga training sessions can be done is a priority of MDNIY. The proposal submitted by MDNIY for setting up four studios for conducting various online education and training activities was approved by the SFC.
VI. Prime Minister Modi address India Mobile Congress 2020
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will give the inaugural address at the virtual India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020 on 08 December 2020 at 10:45 AM. IMC 2020 is being organised by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). It will be held from 8th to 10th December 2020.
- The theme for IMC 2020 is "Inclusive Innovation - Smart, Secure, Sustainable”. It aims to align to the Prime Minister’s vision to promote ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, ‘Digital Inclusivity’, and ‘Sustainable development, entrepreneurship & innovation’. It also aims to drive foreign and local investments, encourage R&D in the telecom and emerging technology sectors.
