Senior BJP leader La. Ganesan succeeded Najma Heptulla, who had retired on 10 August 2021 and thereafter the additional charge of Manipur Governor was handed over to Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad by President Ram Nath Kovind.

La. Ganesan has been appointed as the 17th Governor of Manipur.

In a release, Rashtrapati Bhavan said that senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Tamil Nadu La. Ganesan will be the new Governor of the state from the date he assumes the office of the Governor of Manipur.
