India’s Harnaaz Sandhu is Miss Universe 2021, India won Miss Universe title after 21 years     

Chandigarh's 21-year-old actor-model Harnaaz Sandhu was elected the 70th Miss Universe in the Miss Universe pageant held in Eilat Israel. After 21 years, India has won the title of Miss Universe, earlier in the year 2000, Lara Dutta won the title of Miss Universe for India.

Paraguay's Nadia Ferreira was first runner-up and South Africa's Lalela Mswane was named second runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant competition 2021.


Envoys of Four Nations Present Credentials to President Ram Nath Kovind  

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind, accepted credentials from the Ambassador of Republic of Cuba, High Commissioner of Republic Ghana, Ambassador of Mongolia and High Commissioner of Republic of Sierra Leone in Ashok Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Those who presented their credentials were:

  1. Mr. Alejandro Simancas Marin, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba
  2. Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana
  3. Mr. Ganbold Dambajav, Ambassador of Mongolia

PM Modi inaugurate Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi, UP 

Uttara Pradesh Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on 13-14 December. On 13 December, Prime Minister Modi visited Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and offered prayers, after which he inaugurated phase 1 of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, constructed at a cost of around Rs 339 crores.

A total of 23 buildings were inaugurated in phase 1 of the project. They provide a variety of facilities to the pilgrims visiting Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, including Yatri Suvidha Kendras, Tourist Facilitation Centre, Vedic Kendra, Mumukshu Bhavan, Bhogshala, City Museum, Viewing Gallery, Food Court, among others.


Govt launches A National Helpline against Atrocities on SCs/STs 

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched a National Helpline Against Atrocities (NHAA) with an aim to ensure proper implementation of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities){PoA} Act, 1989 which was enacted with a view to, inter-alia, preventing atrocities on members of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The NHAA will be available round the clock on toll-free number 14566 across the country. It can be accessed by making a voice call /VOIP either from a mobile or land line number of any Telecom Operator across the country. This service will be available in Hindi, English and regional language of the State/UTs. Its Mobile application will also be available.

Objective

The objective of the helpline is to build informed awareness about the provisions of the Law that are aimed at ending discrimination and provide protection to all. The system will ensure that every complaint is registered as an FIR, relief is provided, all registered complaints are investigated and all chargesheets filed are prosecuted in the Courts for decision - all within the given timelines in the Act.

Available as a web based self-service portal also, the NHAA will generate awareness about the Protection of Civil Right (PCR) Act, 1955 and its rules as well.


Former Assembly Speaker of Uttarakhand Harbans Kapoor passes away at 75  

Uttarakhand Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA and former assembly speaker Harbans Kapoor passed away. He was 75. Harbans Kapoor has been an MLA for eight consecutive terms from the Cantt assembly constituency of Dehradun.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 133.17 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.37%

With the administration of 19,10,917vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 133.17 Cr (1,33,17,84,462) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

The recovery of 7,973 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,41,30,768.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.37%,highest since March 2020. 7,350 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload Presently at 91,456 is lowest in 561 days. Active cases constitute 0.26% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.69% remains less than 1% for the last 29 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.86%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for the last 70 days and below 3% for 105 consecutive days now.
