PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut on 2 Jan       

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut on 2nd January 2022.

The Major Dhyan Chand Sports University will be established at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at an estimated cost of about Rs 700 Crore.

CORBEVAX receives DCGI approval for Emergency Use Authorization  

India’s first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) protein sub-unit vaccine for COVID-19, CORBEVAX, developed by Biological E Limited, has received the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approval for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and its Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), have supported Biological E’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate from pre-clinical stage through Phase III clinical studies.

The vaccine candidate was provided financial support under COVID-19 Research Consortium, through the National Biopharma Mission, for pre-clinical toxicology studies. Later support was provided under Mission COVID Suraksha for clinical development. CORBEVAXTM is a 2-dose vaccine administered intramuscularly and can be stored at 2ºC to 8ºC.

Govt to send SMS reminder for precautionary dose of COVID-19 vaccine for eligible people  

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that the central government will send an SMS alert to the eligible elderly population to remind them to take precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine starting from January 10, 2022.

CCI approves acquisition of 96.42% equity shareholding in Jindal Power Ltd by Worldone Private Ltd  

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of 96.42% equity shareholding in Jindal Power Limited by Worldone Private Limited.

Worldone Private Limited (Worldone) is an investment holding company which has investments in various listed and unlisted companies. Jindal Power Limited (JPL) is primarily engaged in the business of generating thermal power by using coal as a fuel source.

The Proposed Combination relates to acquisition of 96.42% equity shareholding in JPL by Worldone. The relevant markets associated with the transaction are (i) Market for coal-based thermal power generation in India (ii) Market for power transmission in India.


South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock announces retirement from Test Cricket  

South Africa's wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test cricket. He made this announcement after South Africa's defeat against India in the Centurion Test.

De Kock made his Test debut against Australia in 2014 at Gqeberha. De Kock scored 3300 runs in 54 matches at an average of 38.82 and a strike rate of 70.93. De Kock has six centuries and 22 half-centuries with 232 dismissals, including 221 catches and 11 stumpings.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 144.54 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.36%

With the administration of 66,65,290 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 144.54 Cr (1,44,54,16,714) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

7,585 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,42,66,363.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.36%. 16,764 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 91,361. Active cases constitute 0.26% of the country's total Positive Cases.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.89% remains less than 1% for the last 47 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 1.34%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for the last 88 days and below 3% for 123 consecutive days now.
