Lok Sabha passes Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill - 2022    

The Lok Sabha today passed the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill - 2022. The bill seeks to authorise for taking measurements of convicts and other persons for the purposes of identification and investigation in criminal matters and to preserve records.

Background 

The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill - 2022 provides for legal sanction for taking appropriate body measurements of persons who are required to give such measurements which include finger-impressions, palm-print and foot-print impressions, photographs, iris and retina scan, physical, biological samples and their analysis among others. Indian music composer Ricky Kej wins Grammy Award for album Divine Tides

20th edition of the Indo-French bilateral Naval exercise ‘Varuna-2022’ concludes 

The culmination of the 20th edition of the Indo-French bilateral Naval exercise ‘Varuna-2022’ took place on 03 Apr 2022.

The eventful tactical sea phase of the exercise laid primary focus on advanced anti-submarine warfare tactics, gunnery shoots, seamanship evolutions, tactical manoeuvres and extensive air operations. The units also undertook cross deck landings by integral helicopters, showcasing a high level of interoperability between them. Gun firing and underway replenishment procedures were also exercised between ships.

The final phase of the exercise progressed with tapered focus on advanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercises. INS Chennai with Sea King Mk 42B, maritime patrol aircraft P8i, French Navy frigate FS Courbet, support vessel FS Loire, and other units exercised on full spectrum of ASW operations. The later part of the exercise also included exchange of sea-riders at sea.

The Sports Ministry will spend 190 crore rupees on training of athletes and equipment for upcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games - 2022.

The Sports Ministry has finalized the Annual Calendar of Training and Competitions for 33 Sports disciplines and earmarked a sum of 259 crore rupees for the financial year 2022-23 as assistance to various National Sports Federations.

Indian boxer Monika stunned two-time world champion Josie Gabuco of the Philippines to advance to the women's 48-kilogram semifinals in the Thailand Open International Boxing competition.

Indian boxer Monika defeated Gubuco, an experienced campaigner who won gold and bronze medals at the World Championships in 2012 and 2008.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 184.87 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.76%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 184.87 Cr (1,84,87,33,081) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 1.92 Cr (1,92,18,099) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

India’s Active Caseload declines to today 12,054 Active cases now constitute 0.03% of the country's total Positive Cases. 795 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.76%. 1,280 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,24,96,369.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.22% and the Daily Positivity rate is also reported to be 0.17%
