6th edition of Japan India Maritime Exercise JIMEX 2022 Concludes
The sixth edition of the Japan India Maritime Exercise 2022, JIMEX 22 hosted by the Indian Navy concluded in the Bay of Bengal.
Indian Naval ships led by Rear Adm Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet and Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) Ships Izumo and Takanami led by Rear Adm Hirata Toshiyuki, Commander Escort Flotilla Four, participated in the week-long exercise.

Direct Tax collections grows 30% for Financial Year 2022-23
The Direct Tax collections for the FY 2022-23, as on 17.09.2022 show that net collections are at Rs. 7,00,669 crore, compared to Rs. 5,68,147 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding Financial Year i.e. FY 2021-22, representing an increase of 23%.
The Net Direct Tax collection of Rs. 7,00,669 crore(net of refund)includes Corporation Tax (CIT) at Rs. 3,68,484 crore and Personal Income Tax (PIT) including Securities Transaction Tax(STT) at Rs. 3,30,490 crore.
The Gross collection of Direct Taxes (before adjusting for refunds) for the FY 2022-23 stands at Rs. 8,36,225 crore compared to Rs. 6,42,287 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding Financial Year i.e. FY 2021-22, registering a growth of 30% over collections of FY 2021-22.
The Gross collection of Rs. 8,36,225 crore includes Corporation Tax (CIT) at Rs. 4,36,020 crore and Personal Income Tax (PIT) including Securities Transaction Tax(STT) at Rs. 3,98,440 crore. Minor head wise collection comprises Advance Tax of Rs. 2,95,308 crore; Tax Deducted at Source of Rs. 4,34,740 crore; Self-Assessment Tax of Rs. 77,164 crore; Regular Assessment Tax of Rs. 20,080 crore; and Tax under other minor heads of Rs. 8,933 crore.
Advance Tax collections for the FY 2022-23
The cumulative Advance Tax collections for the first and second quarter of the FY 2022-23 stand at Rs. 2,95,308 crore as on 17.09.2022, against Advance Tax collections of Rs. 2,52,077 crore for the corresponding period of the immediately preceding Financial Year i.e FY 2021-22, showing a growth of 17%. The Advance Tax collection of Rs. 2,95,308 crore comprises Corporation Tax (CIT) at Rs. 2,29,132 crore and Personal Income Tax (PIT) at Rs. 66,176 crore.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar leaves on an 11-day visit to America
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will visit the US from 18th till 28th September to participate in the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During his visit to New York on the first leg of his tour, Dr Jaishankar will lead the India delegation for the High-Level Week at the United Nations General Assembly.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has declared Andaman and Nicobar Islands as India's first Swachh Sujal Pradesh. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat handed over the certificate to Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Admiral DK Joshi.

Former Union Minister Manikrao Gavit passes away at 87
Former union minister and Congress leader Manikrao Gavit passed away in Nashik Maharashtra. He was 87. A nine-time Lok Sabha member Manikrao Gavit represented the tribal-dominated Nandurbar constituency from 1980 to 2009, and lost the election in 2014.
Manikrao Gavit served as the Union Minister of state home in the Manmohan Singh government in 2004 and Minister of State social justice in 2013.

Paralympics gold medalist javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia has won a silver medal in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2022 in Morocco. Devendra threw the javelin to a distance of 60.97 meter to capture the silver.
India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 216.56 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.71%
India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 216.56 Cr (2,16,56,54,766) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.08 Cr (4,08,08,126) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.
India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 47,922. Active cases now constitute 0.11% of the country's total Positive Cases. 5,664 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.71%. 4,555 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,39,57,929.
The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.79% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.96%.
