PM Modi to dedicate 75 Digital Banking Units across 75 districts to the Nation    

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) to the nation on 16th October 2022 via video conferencing.

As part of the Union budget speech for 2022-23, the Finance Minister had announced the setting up of the 75 DBUs in 75 districts of the country to commemorate the 75 years of independence of our country.

Key Highlights 

The Digital Banking Units (DBUs) are being set up with an objective to ensure benefits of digital banking reach every nook and corner of the country and will cover all the States and Union territories. 11 Public Sector Banks, 12 Private Sector Banks and one Small Finance Bank are participating in the endeavour.

Digital Banking Units (DBUs) will be brick and mortar outlets which will provide a variety of digital banking facilities to people such as opening of savings account, balance-check, print passbook, transfer of funds, investment in fixed deposits, loan applications, stop-payment instructions for cheques issued, apply for credit / debit cards, view statement of account, pay taxes, pay bills, make nominations, etc.

Digital Banking Units (DBUs) will enable customers to have cost effective, convenient access and enhanced digital experience of banking products and services all round the year. They will spread Digital Financial Literacy and special emphasis will be given to customer education on cyber security awareness and safeguards. Also, there shall be adequate digital mechanisms to offer real time assistance and redress customer grievances arising from business and services offered by the DBUs directly or through Business Facilitators/ Correspondents.


INS Arihant carries out successful launch of SLBM 

INS Arihant carried out a successful launch of a Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) on October 14, 2022. INS Arihant is India’s nuclear powered ballistic missile capable submarine.

The Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) was tested to a predetermined range and impacted the target area in the Bay of Bengal with very high accuracy. All operational and technological parameters of the weapon system have been validated.

INS Tarkash participates in 7th edition of Multinational Maritime Exercise IBSAMAR VII 

The 7th edition of IBSAMAR, a joint multinational maritime exercise, among the Indian, Brazilian and South Africa navies was held at Port Gqebera (also known as Port Elizabeth), South Africa from 10 to 12 Oct 22. The Indian Navy was represented in it by the guided missile frigate, INS Tarkash, a Chetak helicopter and MARCOS special forces.

Multinational Maritime Exercise IBSAMAR VII: Objective 

The objectives of the exercise included strengthening maritime relations, promoting joint operational military training, combating maritime crimes, securing Sea Lines of Communication and enhancing interoperability to pursue common evolutions at sea.

Background 

As part of harbour phase on 10 and 11 Oct 22, professional exchanges including DC & FF drills, VBSS/cross boarding lectures, joint diving operations, interaction among special forces and cross-deck visits were conducted. The sea phase was held on 12 Oct 22 covering a broad spectrum of maritime operations.

India participates at the 6th East Asia Summit Education Minister’s Meeting held today in Hanoi, Vietnam. Ms. Neeta Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) Ministry of Education virtually addressed the gathering and informed about the key initiatives of National Education Policy 2020 and India’s collaborative efforts in education and research with partner EAS countries.


India’s overall exports in September 2022 estimated to be USD 61.10 Billion 

India’s overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) in September 2022 are estimated to be USD 61.10 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 10.24 per cent over the same period last year. Overall imports in September 2022 are estimated to be USD 76.26 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 10.73 per cent over the same period last year.

Overall Trade during September 2022

India’s overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) in April-September 2022 are estimated to be USD 382.31 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 21.03 per cent over the same period last year. Overall imports in April-September 2022 are estimated to be USD 469.47 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 37.77 per cent over the same period last year.


First National Coal Conclave & Exhibition held in Delhi on 16-17 October, 2022

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh launched ‘Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot’ website (www.maabharatikesapoot.mod.gov.in) for contribution to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF) at a function organised at the National War Memorial Complex in New Delhi on October 14, 2022. The AFBCWF is a Tri-Service fund, which is utilised for grant of immediate financial assistance to the families of soldiers/sailors/airmen who lay down their lives or get grievously injured in active military operations.


Indian shooter Rudrankksh Patil wins Gold medal at ISSF World Championship in Egypt

Indian shooter Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil won gold medal in men's 10m air rifle event at ISSF World Championship in Cairo, Egypt. With this win, he also secured a 2024 Paris Olympics quota for the country. Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil defeated Italy's Danilo Dennis Sollazzo 17-15.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 219.27 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.76%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 219.27 Cr (2,19,27,15,971) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.11 Cr (4,11,33,467) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 26,618. Active cases now constitute 0.06% of the country's total Positive Cases. 2,430 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.76%. 2,378 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,40,70,935.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.07% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.01%.
