General Anil Chauhan takes over as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) 

Lt General Anil Chauhan appointed as new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM assumed office as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on September 30, 2022. General Chauhan will also be the Principal Military Advisor to the Raksha Mantri on all Tri-Service matters as well as head Department of Military Affairs as Secretary. He will also be Permanent Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC).

Lt General Anil Chauhanis the second Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the country. The first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was General Bipin Rawat, who died in a helicopter crash.

Born on 18th May 1961, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

Govt extends AFSPA in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for 6 months  

The central government has extended for another six months the application of the disturbed area under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958 in 12 districts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

In a notification issued by the Home Affairs Ministry, it has been stated that the Central Government is of the opinion that the State of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh is in a disturbed and dangerous condition and the use of armed forces in aid of the civil power is necessary.


US sanctions to Indian company for buying Iranian petro products

The US Treasury Department has imposed economic sanctions against an Indian petrochemical company for alleged million-dollar purchases of Iranian petrochemical products for onward shipment to China.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 218.68 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.73%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 218.68 Cr (2,18,68,45,847) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.10 Cr (4,10,30,931) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 38,293. Active cases now constitute 0.09% of the country's total Positive Cases. 3,805 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.73%. 5,069 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,40,24,164.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.39% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.29%.
