India emerges as world’s largest producer of sugar 

India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and second-largest exporter of sugar. In the Sugar Season 2021-22, a record of more than five thousand Lakh metric tons of sugarcane was produced in the country.

Out of this, 35 lakh metric tons of sugar was diverted to ethanol production and 359 lakh metric ton of sugar was produced by sugar mills. Records highest sugar exports of over 109 lakh metric ton have been registered.


RBI imposes 28 lakh penalty on Rajarambapu Sahakari Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹28.00 lakh (Rupees Twenty-eight lakh only) on Rajarambapu Sahakari Bank Ltd. Peth, Sangli for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘Customer Protection - Limiting Liability of Customers of Co-operative Banks in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions’ and on ‘Interest Rate on Deposits’.

Background

The statutory inspection of the bank conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2020, and examination of the Risk Assessment Report and all related correspondence pertaining to the same, revealed, inter alia, that the bank had (i) not provided a direct link for its customers to lodge complaints, with specific option to report unauthorised electronic banking transactions, on the home page of its website and (ii) not paid applicable interest on balance amounts lying in current accounts of deceased individual depositors/ sole proprietorship concerns while making repayments to the claimants. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for non-compliance with the RBI directions, as stated therein.


RBI imposes 18.50 lakh penalty on Nagpur Nagarik Sahakari Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹18.50 lakh (Rupees Eighteen Lakh Fifty Thousand only) on Nagpur Nagarik Sahakari Bank Limited Nagpur for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘Placement of Deposits with Other Banks by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks (UCBs)’.

Background

The statutory inspection of the bank conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2020, and examination of the Risk Assessment Report and all related correspondence pertaining to the same, revealed, inter alia, that the bank, despite being ineligible, had accepted fixed deposits from other Urban Co-operative Banks. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for non-compliance with the RBI directions, as stated therein.


PM Modi inaugurates AIIMS Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh 

Himachal Pradesh Elections: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur.

The AIIMS whose foundational stone was also laid by the prime minister in October 2017 has been established under the Central sector scheme Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

AIIMS Bilaspur, constructed at a cost of more than one thousand four hundred seventy crore rupees is a state-of-the-art hospital with 18 specialty and 17 super specialty departments, 18 modular operation theatres and 750 beds with 64 ICU beds.

According to the Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel the Atmanirbhar Gujarat Scheme is expected to attract a proposed investment of nearly 12.50 lakh crore rupees in the state besides generating employment for around 15 lakh people in the coming days.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 218.84 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.74%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 218.84 Cr (2,18,84,20,182) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.10 Cr (4,10,49,845) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 32,282. Active cases now constitute 0.07% of the country's total Positive Cases. 2,529 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.74%. 3,553 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,40,43,436.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.38% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 2.07%.
