DRDO conducts successful flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence interceptor   

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on November 02, 2022. The flight-test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.

Key Highlights 

The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft. Sanjeev Chopra assumes charge as Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution 

Sanjeev Chopra, has assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution with effect from 31st October 2022. Sanjeev Chopra is a 1990 Batch IAS officer of Odisha Cadre.

About Sanjeev Chopra 

Sanjeev Chopra completed his B,Com Honours and M.B.A. from FMS, Delhi University. Later, he completed his LL.B. from Utkal University Bhubaneswar and M.Sc from the London School of Economics & Political Science.

Sanjeev Chopra started his career as Sub Collector in Baripada (Odisha). He served as District Collector and District Magistrate in Koraput, Odisha from 1995 to 1997. He served as Director/Deputy Secretary in the Technical Education & Training Department during 1999-2000.

Sanjeev Chopra has been rewarded by the Government of India with the National e-Governance Award for Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering for Digital Transformation in the Year 2020 and 2021.


Cabinet approves MoU between India and Denmark on Water Resources Development and Management 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Denmark on cooperation in the field of Water Resources Development and Management.

The Broad areas of cooperation envisaged in the MoU are 

  • Integrated and smart water resources development and management;
  • Aquifer mapping, groundwater modelling, monitoring and recharge;
  • Efficient and sustainable water supply at household level, including reduction of non-revenue water and energy consumption;
  • River and water body rejuvenation to enhance liveability, resilience and economic development;
  • Water quality monitoring and management;
  • Sewage/wastewater treatment including circular economy for reuse/recycling of wastewater, including comprehensive sludge management and maximizing use of renewable energy in field of water supply and sanitation;
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation, including nature based solutions.
  • River centric urban planning including urban flood management


Cabinet approves naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi as Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as “Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar”.

The resolution was passed by the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh to name the airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’, which reflect the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) to symbolize the traditions and rich cultural heritage of the State.

The Government of India granted ‘In-principle’ approval for development of Hollongi Greenfield Airport in January, 2019. The project is being developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of Central Government and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs. 646 crore.


First edition of India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise (IMT TRILAT) held in Dar Es Salaam 

The first edition of India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise (IMT TRILAT), a joint maritime exercise among the Indian, Mozambique and Tanzanian navies commenced at Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on 27 Oct 22. The Indian Navy is represented by the guided missile frigate, INS Tarkash, a Chetak helicopter and MARCOS (Special Forces).

Objective 

The exercise has three broad objectives: capability development to address common threats through training and sharing of best practices, enhancing interoperability, and strengthening maritime cooperation. The exercise is scheduled over a three-day period from 27 to 29 Oct 22 and includes harbour and sea phases.


India Post Payments Bank conducts India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp in Srinagar 

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), stablished under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication with 100% equity owned by the Government of India, conducted India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp with an initiative called ‘Niveshak Didi’ to promote Financial Literacy ‘By the women, for the women’, in Srinagar, J&K today.

‘Niveshak Didi’ initiative is based on the ideology of women for women as rural area women feel more comfortable to share their queries with a female itself.


Indian Army collaborates with TATA to setup EV charging points in Delhi 

The Indian Army through it's 'Go-Green Initiative' has collaborated with TATA Power, India's largest integrated utility, to setup 16 charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) at various locations in Delhi Cantonment. Inauguration of charging stations was carried out today by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, GOC Delhi Area in the presence of army officials and senior executives from TATA Power and TATA Motors.

All 16 charging stations setup in Delhi Cantonment can be used both for personal and official EVs in Delhi Cantonment. The Indian Army is providing suitable facilities for setting up EV charging stations along with arranging upstream power infrastructure to energise the chargers.


Vigilance Awareness Week 2022 to be observed from 31st October to 6th November

Vigilance Awareness Week 2022: The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) observes the Vigilance Awareness Week from 31st October to 6th November, 2022 with the theme: “भ्रष्टाचार मुक्त भारत - विकसित भारत” “Corruption free India for a developed Nation”. This is observed every year during the week in which the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31st October) falls.

This awareness week campaign affirms our commitment to promotion of integrity and probity in public life through citizen participation.
