Dinesh Kumar Shukla appointed as head of AERB: Senior nuclear scientist Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for a period of three years.

Dinesh Kumar Shukla succeeds G. Nageswara Rao to the new head of AERB. Shukla has been the executive director of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dinesh Kumar Shukla to the post of Chairperson of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post.

About new head of AERB Dinesh Kumar Shukla 

Dinesh Kumar Shukla a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Jabalpur University, Madhya Pradesh (M.P) joined the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in the year 1981 after completing the 25th batch of BARC Training School. 

Shukla has been associated with the commissioning of high flux research reactor Dhruva and later held the positions of Reactor Superintendent of Dhruva Research Reactor and Head, Reactor Operations Division (ROD), BARC. As Head, ROD, BARC, he was responsible for safe and efficient operation of the research reactors at Trombay.

Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been associated with several committees of AERB and BARC Safety Council (BSC) for the design and operational safety review of Pressurized Heavy Water reactors, Light Water reactors, special facilities, reprocessing plants and radioactive waste management facilities. He was Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Occupational Health for BARC Facilities and Unit Level Safety Committee for Medical & other Facilities. 

Shukla was a member of the Management Committee for Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology (BRIT) and also of the Radioisotopes, Radiation Technology and Application Committee (RTAC) of the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS). He has immensely contributed towards the development of various safety documents.

Dinesh Kumar Shukla has served as consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on matters related to safety of research reactors. He led the Indian delegation during the Seventh Organizational Meeting of Contracting Parties on Convention of Nuclear Safety. He has represented India in the OECD-CNRA and CSNI meetings in Paris and the OECD NEA-CNRA- Scoping Task Group for Research Reactor Safety (SORRTG). 

Shukla Chaired the IAEA workshop on regulatory supervision of research reactors held at Vienna, Austria. He also Chaired the Organizing Committee of AERB for the International Conference of CANSAS 2015 and NHRTS 2015 held in India.
