India, Singapore launches UPI-PayNow Linkage  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong participated in the virtual launch of real time payment linkage between the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India and PayNow of Singapore.

Shaktikanta Das, Governor of Reserve Bank of India and Ravi Menon, Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore made live cross-border transactions to each other using their respective mobile phones.

Singapore is the first country with which a cross-border Person to Person (P2P) payment facility has been launched. This will help the Indian diaspora in Singapore, especially migrant workers/students and bring the benefits of digitalisation and FINTECH to the common man through instantaneous and low-cost transfer of money from Singapore to India and vice-versa. India and Seychelles sign agreement in the field of Maritime Defence and Security    

In order to further the existing cooperation in the realm of maritime safety and security, IFC-IOR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Regional Coordination Operations Centre (RCOC), Seychelles.

Aims 

The MoU signed by Captain Rohit Bajpai, Director, IFC-IOR and Capt Sam Gontier, Director, RCOC aims to promote collaboration between the two Centres towards enhancing maritime domain awareness, information sharing and expertise development.

Key Highlights 

During the MoU signing both the Directors of RCOC and IFC-IOR were unanimous on the need to enhance information sharing and analysis to cue actions at sea. They also highlighted that this MoU will enhance trust and improve synergy between the Centres towards furthering collaborative maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean Region.

The event was attended by the Secretary General and delegates from IOC, High Commissioner of India to Seychelles and senior officers of the Indian Navy.


India, New Zealand to collaborate on cancer care 

India sign MoU with New Zealand to collaborate on cancer care: Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland and Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Mumbai, the largest and the most renowned cancer care hospital and research centre in India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to engage in long-term cooperation in cancer care.

Initial projects envisaged for the partnership include: a digital platform for clinical trials to track study-related activities for patients, investigators and regulators; a digital platform to make outpatient clinics more efficient; and a digital method to enhance prescription medicine safety, such as including connecting systems to ensure potential serious drug interactions are identified and flagged for the treating physician.


India participates in 28th edition of Gulfood 2023 

Agricultural and Process Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) is participating in the 28th edition of Gulfood 2023 being held in UAE.

In order to augment trade, India has been participating in GULFOOD which is a platform that connects food and beverage sectors around the globe, providing ample of opportunities to Indian exporters.

Over the years APEDA has participated in Gulfood and brought a strong contingent of suppliers from Indian diaspora. In an area of appx 600 sq. mtr, more than 50 Indian exporters from the different categories like women entrepreneurs, Start ups, merchants and manufacturers showcasing agricultural, dairy, pulses and meat-based produce with focus on Millet and its products through APEDA pavilion, are being showcased.

About Gulfood

In Gulfood organized from 20th – 24nd February 2023, there was participation of 5000 companies from 125 countries. In the International Year of Millets (IYOM) 2023, India is participating in GULFOOD with the theme focused on export promotion of millets and its value added products. Indian Pavilion is promoting around 100 delegations of exporters. 

Millet gallery has been prepared to showcase Millets and its products by the start ups and new entrepreneurs to provide them a platform to showcase their quality products.


Asia Economic Dialogue 2023 begins in Pune 

External Affairs Ministry's annual flagship event on Asia Economic Dialogue begins in Pune, Maharashtra.

Three-day event is being co-hosted in collaboration with Pune International Centre. The principal theme for the Dialogue is ‘Asia and the Emerging World Order’.


10th edition of International Exhibition and Conference on Technical Textiles - Technotex 

'Technotex 2023: Envisioning Indian Technical Textiles @2047', the 10th International Exhibition and Conference on Technical Textiles, was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Technotex, organized by the Union Ministry of Textiles and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), is a flagship event comprising buyer-seller meets, an international exhibition and conference.

The three-day event being held during February 22 – 24 will provide a common platform for interaction amongst stakeholders from across the global technical textile value chain.

Cabinet approves extension of tenure of 22nd Law Commission of India 

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the extension of the term of the Twenty-second Law Commission of India upto 31st August, 2024.

The Law Commission of India is a non-statutory body, constituted by the Government of India from time to time. The Commission was originally constituted in 1955 and is reconstituted from time to time. The tenure of the present Twenty-second Law Commission of India ends on 20th February, 2023.

The various Law Commission have been able to make important contributions towards the progressive development and codification of Law of the country. The Law Commission has so far submitted 277 Reports.

The Chairperson and Members of the Twenty-second Law Commission have joined office recently and have taken up several pending projects for examination and report, being the work in progress. Therefore, the tenure of the Twenty-second Law Commission has been extended upto 31st August, 2024.


Railways to launch Guru Kripa Yatra with Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train from 5 April 2023 

Indian Railways is set to launch Guru Kripa Yatra from 5th April 2023 from Lucknow with its exclusive Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train. During the eleven-day holy tour, the pilgrims will visit the most prominent revered sites of Sikhism which includes the five Holy Takhts.

The tour will include a visit to Sri Kesgarh Sahib Gurudwara and Virasat-e-khalsa at Anandpur Sahib, Gurudwara Sri Patalpuri Sahib at Kiratpur Sahib, Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib at Sirhind, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandir Sahib at Amritsar, Sri Damdama Sahib at Bathinda, Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib at Nanded, Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib at Bidar and Gurudwara Sri Harmandarji Sahib at Patna.


BIS Signs MoU with IIT Guwahati, IIT Gandhinagar and NIT Calicut for establishing BIS Standardization Chair Professor 

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Guwahati, IIT Gandhinagar and NIT Calicut for establishment of ‘BIS Standardization Chair Professor’ at these institutes.

This is an initiative towards institutionalizing its engagement with the eminent institutes of the country for securing active participation of academia in standards formulation and making teaching of Indian standards an integral part of the curriculum.

The BIS Standardization Chair is created for research and development, teaching and training in the field of Standardization and Conformity Assessment in the country with focus on the areas of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Earthquake Engineering, Development and Management of water resources and renewable energy projects, Infrastructure Development, Medical Biotechnology & Nanotechnology, Biomaterials, etc. This will promote excellence and leadership in teaching and research & development in the field of science and various disciplines.


Agriculture Minister Tomar inaugurates National Horticulture Fair in Bengaluru 

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today inaugurated the four-day National Horticulture Fair on Innovative Horticulture for self-reliance and to showcase the latest technologies developed by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), for the benefit of productive farmers and other stakeholders.


ISSF World Cup 2023: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar wins gold medal 

India's Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar on Wednesday claimed the gold medal in the men's individual 50m rifle 3 positions competition at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo.

The 22-year-old Tomar, who had also won a gold in the Changwon World Cup last year, won 16-6 in the gold medal contest to comfortably beat Austria's Alexander Schmirl.


ISSF World Cup 2023: Tilottama Sen wins bronze medal in Women’s 10m Air Rifle

Indian teen Tilottama Sen has won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle at ISSF World Cup at Cairo in Egypt. The 14-year-old Sen won second bronze for India, fifth overall after ending the top eight ranking round with a score of 262.
