India and Sweden sign MoC to strengthen research cooperation 

A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed between India's Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), and The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT), Stockholm, Sweden, to strengthen cooperation and promote research networking between research institutions from both countries.

The India and Sweden MoC was signed by Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, SERB, and Dr. Andreas Göthenberg, Executive Director, STINT.

Aims

India and Japan Conduct Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) in Arabian Sea  

A Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) was conducted between Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea. The partnership exercise was conducted on 11 March 2023.

INS Sahyadri and JMSDF ship JS Suzutsuki, an Akizuki Class Destroyer was participated in the Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX).

India, Japan Maritime Partnership Exercise: Aims

Aimed at consolidating their shared commitment to regional and global security challenges, the exercise witnessed cross deck landings by integral helicopters, tactical manoeuvres and a customary steampast by the ships. Indian Navy and JMSDF have been collaborating closely on various fronts and playing a key role in ensuring safety of international maritime trade and working towards global commons. 

The exercise underscored the strong navy-to-navy links and the high level of interoperability between the two nations in the maritime domain.


3rd edition of Multilateral Exercise La Perouse 2023 

The third edition of the multilateral exercise La Perouse is scheduled to be conducted in the Indian Ocean Region from 13 to 14 March 2023.

Participate by  

This edition will witness participation of personnel, ships and integral helicopters of Royal Australian Navy, French Navy, Indian Navy, Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force, Royal Navy and the United States Navy.

Multilateral Exercise La Perouse: Aims 

The biennial exercise La Perouse is conducted by the French Navy, and is aimed at enhancing maritime domain awareness and optimising maritime coordination amongst the participating navies in the Indo-Pacific Region.

The two day exercise provides an opportunity for like minded navies to develop closer links in planning, coordination and information sharing for seamless maritime operations. 

The exercise will witness complex and advanced naval operations including surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defence exercises, cross deck landings and tactical manoeuvres.


India to host SCO Tourism Ministers’ Meeting on 17th-18th March 2023 in Kashi 

India will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Tourism Ministers’ Meeting (TMM) on 17th -18th March 2023 in Kashi (Varanasi), which has been designated as the first cultural capital of the SCO. India is the current chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

India has assumed the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Chairship for 2023. As part of the tourism track activities under India’s chairship, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India planned various activities such as (i) SCO Tourism Mart during SATTE (South Asia's Travel & Tourism Exchange) from 9th-11th February 2023 (ii) SCO Expert Level Tourism Working Group Meeting and SCO Tourism Ministers Meeting in Kashi (Varanasi) from 13-18th March 2023 and (iii) SCO Food Festival in Mumbai from 13-19 April 2023.

The eight member countries of SCO represent around 42% of the world population and 25% of the global GDP. There is an immense tourism potential in the region which can be promoted by increasing awareness about SCO countries. 

The total Cultural Heritage of the SCO member states, observers and partners include 207 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. To showcase this unique product of the region, SCO member countries have decided to designate one city (from SCO member countries) as tourism and cultural capital every year under a rotating initiative. It is interesting to mention that “Kashi” (Varanasi) has been designated as the first cultural capital of the SCO under this initiative.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. The SCO currently comprises of eight Member States (China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), four Observer States interested in acceding to full membership (Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia) and six “Dialogue Partners” (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey).


Ram Chandra Paudel sworn in as President of Nepal 

Ram Chandra Paudel took the oath of office and secrecy as the new President of Nepal at Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu. Nepali congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel was elected the President of Nepal by the electoral college on March 9 defeating Subash Chandra Nembang.


Retail inflation based on CPI eases to 6.44% in February 

Retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased to 6.44 percent in February. Earlier, Inflation in January stood at a three-month high level of 6.52 percent

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data released today, inflation in the food basket last month moderated to 5.95 percent from 6 percent in January. Food prices contribute to nearly 40 percent of the CPI basket.


MoD inks over Rs 900 crore contract for Normal Refit of Sindhukirti Submarine 

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract for Normal Refit of Sindhukirti Submarine at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam at an overall cost of Rs 934 crore. Sindhukirti is 3rd Kilo Class Diesel Electric Submarine. After completion of refit, Sindhukirti will be combat worthy and will join the active submarine fleet of the Indian Navy.

This refit has been offloaded to develop alternate repair facilities for submarines and is a further step towards undertaking Medium refit with Life Certification at HSL. The project involves more than 20 Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and would lead to employment generation of 1,000 mandays per day for the project duration.


Nitin Gadkari inaugurates and lays foundation stone of 18 National Highway in Gorakhpur 

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 18 National Highway projects with an investment of more than 10,000 crore in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The 4-laning of Sonauli – Gorakhpur will strengthen border security along the international border. With the construction of the bypass, the Gorakhpur Ring Road will be completed relieving traffic jam in the city and also help in establishment of commercial, residential units.

India qualify for World Cricket Test Championship final

India qualified for the World Cricket Test Championship final and will face Australia at the Oval in London from June 7-11, after New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in Christchurch.
