2nd meeting of SFWG under India’s G20 Presidency to begin in Udaipur 

The second meeting of Sustainable Financial Working Group (SFWG) under India’s G20 Presidency is beginning in Udaipur of Rajasthan on 21st March 2023 (today).

Second G20 SFWG meeting: Key Highlights 

The event will be held at Hotel Radisson Blu, banks of Fatehsagar lake, and will be attended by more than 100 delegates from the member countries of G20, guest countries, and different international organizations. Guests will be welcomed in Mewari style. The arrival of guests has started.

The First G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) was held in Guwahati, Assam on 2nd-3rd February, 2023 where members showed wide-ranging support and cooperation for the SFWG workplan in 2023.


RBI imposes ₹2.27 crore penalty on RBL Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2,27,25,000 (Rupees Two crore twenty-seven lakh twenty-five thousand only) on RBL Bank Limited for non-compliance with certain provisions of the directions issued by RBI on ‘Internal Ombudsman Scheme, 2018’, ‘Fair Practices Code for Lenders’, ‘Credit Card Operations of Banks’, ‘Managing Risks and Code of Conduct in Outsourcing of Financial Services by banks’ and ‘Recovery Agents engaged by Banks’.


RBI imposes ₹4 lakh penalty on Smriti Nagrik Sahakari Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBl) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹4.00 lakh (Rupees Four lakh only) on Smriti Nagrik Sahakari Bank Maryadit, Mandsaur, (Madhya Pradesh) (the bank) for contravention of/non-compliance with directions issued by RBI on Exposure Norms & Statutory/Other Restrictions on UCBs and Know Your Customer (KYC).


RBI imposes ₹3 lakh penalty on Lokmangal Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBl) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹3.00 lakh (Rupees Three lakh only) on Lokmangal Co-operative Bank Ltd., Solapur (the bank) for contravention of/non-adherence with the directions issued by RBI to Urban Co-operative Banks on Exposure Norms and Statutory/Other Restrictions-UCBs.


PM Modi holds bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in New Delhi 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral delegation-level talks with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in New Delhi.

Key Highlights 

During the meeting, both sides discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the role of the India-Japan partnership in fostering peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. There was a wide-ranging agenda on the table with a focus on cooperation in economy and commerce, climate and energy, defence and security, and skill development.


Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav sworn-in as Vice President of Nepal 

Ram Sahai Prasad Yadav was sworn in and assumed office as the Vice President of Nepal at a special ceremony in Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas.

Yadav defeated Astalaxmi Shakya of CPN (UML) and Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party. He had received support from the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), and the CPN (Unified Socialist) including the ruling alliance.


EPFO adds 14.86 lakh members in January 2023 

The provisional payroll data of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) released highlights that EPFO has added 14.86 lakh net members in the month of January, 2023.

Key Highlights 

Out of 14.86 lakh members added during the month, around 7.77 lakh new members have come under the ambit of EPFO for the first time. Among the newly joined members, highest enrolment is registered in the age-group of 18-21 years with 2.26 lakh members, followed by the age-group of 22-25 years with 2.06 lakh members. The age-groups of 18-25 years constitute 55.52% of total new members during the month.

For the month of January, 2023 only 3.54 lakh members have exited the fold of EPFO. This is the lowest exit in the last four months. The data also highlights that approximately 10.62 lakh members re-joined EPFO membership.

Gender-wise analysis of payroll data reflects that enrolment of net female members has been 2.87 lakh in January, 2023, of which around 1.97 lakh female members are the new joinees. This shows that 68.61% of the net female members have come under the fold of EPFO for the first time.

State-wise payroll figures highlight that month-on-month growing trend in net member addition is reflected in the states of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh etc. In terms of net member addition, top 5 states are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi. These states together added 58.85% of net member addition during the month. Of all the states, Maharashtra is leading by adding 22.73% of overall member addition followed by the state of Karnataka with 10.58% during the month.


Pankaj Advani beats Brijesh Damani to retain Asian Billiards title 

Pankaj Advani retained his Asian Billiards title after defeating compatriot Brijesh Damani (India) 5-1 in the final in Doha, Qatar. Advani is a 25-time International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world champion.


TOPS to fund Olympic Gold Medallist Neeraj Chopra's training in Antalya, Turkey 

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports' (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved Olympic Gold Medallist Neeraj Chopra's proposal to train at Gloria Sports Arena, Turkey for a period of 61 days.

Neeraj Chopra , who under Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding, had trained at Gloria Sports Arena last year as well, will head to Turkey on April 1st and will remain there till 31st May.

The TOPS funding will cover Neeraj, his coach Klaus Bartonietz and his Physiotherapist's Airfare, Boarding & Lodging, Medical Insurance, and Local Transportation costs among others.


ISSF World Cup Shooting Championship begins in Bhopal, MP

International Shooting Sports Federation- ISSF World Cup Shooting Championship is organised in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from 20 to 27 March 2023.

Around 325 shooters from 33 countries and more than 75 technical officials will participate in the World Cup Shooting Championship. It is the 8th World Cup organised in India and the first international shooting tournament to be held outside New Delhi.
