Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood appointed as next Director of CBI

Karnataka director general of police (DGP) Praveen Sood has been appointed as the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years.

Sood is currently serving as the Director General of Police of Karnataka. Praveen Sood will succeed incumbent CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal who will completes his tenure on 25 May 2023.

Praveen Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Karnataka cadre.

Indian Navy successfully test-fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

Indian Navy's latest indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao successfully test-fired its maiden BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

INS Mormugao, the latest guided-missile Destroyer, successfully hit 'Bulls Eye' during her maiden Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile firing. The ship and her potent weapon, both indigenous, mark another shining symbol of Aatmanirbharta and Indian Navy's firepower at sea.

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited is an Indo-Russian joint venture responsible for the production of supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms.

4th edition of India-Indonesia Bilateral Exercise SAMUDRA SHAKTI - 23

The 4th edition of India-Indonesia Bilateral exercise Samudra Shakti-23 will be held in Batam, Indonesia from 14 to 19 May 2023.

Justice Robin Phukan appointed as permanent Judge of Gauhati High Court

The Central Government of India notified the appointment of Justice Robin Phukan, additional judge of the Gauhati High Court as a permanent judge of the High Court. A notification issued in this regard states thus:

In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, after consultation with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is pleased to appoint Justice Robin Phukan, Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Govt imposes import ban on 928 defence items to promote domestic industry

The Defence Ministry has banned the import of 928 military items to promote self-reliance in the defence manufacturing sector. The Ministry announced a fourth positive indigenisation list in continuation of the first three such lists, which contained a total of 1,238 items.

The first three lists were announced in December 2021, March 2022 and August 2022.
