Union Cabinet reshuffle: Arjun Ram Meghwal appointed as new Law Minister

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal has been given the charge of Law Ministry in addition to his existing portfolios.

Meghwal replaces Union Minister Kiren Rijiju who has now been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

President Droupadi Murmu has given permission to reshuffle the ministries on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the press release the charge of the Ministry of Earth Sciences has been given to Kiren Rijiju. According to the Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, President Droupadi Murmu as advised by the Prime Minister has allocated the portfolio.

Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel has been assigned as Minister of State in the Health and Family Welfare Ministry. Baghel was serving as Minister of State in the Law and Justice Ministry.

Siddaramaiah to be next CM of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar Deputy CM

PM Modi to embark on three-nation tour on 19th May 2023

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia on 19th May 2023 morning.

On the first leg of his tour, PM Modi will attend the G7 Summit in Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

On the second leg of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will reach Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea on 21st May. PM Modi will jointly host the third Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation with his Papua New Guinea counterpart James Marape.

On the third leg of his visit, PM Modi will travel to Sydney in Australia on 22nd May. He will hold a bilateral meeting with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on 24th May 2023.

Second G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) meeting to be held in Mumbai from 23-25 May

Second G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) meeting will be held in Mumbai from 23rd to 25th May 2023 and the five key priority areas that will be taken up for discussions in this meeting are early warning, resilient infrastructure, national and international response, building back better and nature-based solutions.

The first DRRWG meeting was held in Gandhinagar in March-April this year. This initiative of India to include Disaster Risk Reduction in the G-20 is a part of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015 to 2030 (Sendai Framework). This was the first major agreement that provided Member-States with a concrete action plan to protect development gains from the Risk of Disaster.

Amazon Web Services to invest $12.7 billion in India

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will invest USD 12.7 billion (around Rs. 1.05 lakh crore) by 2030 on cloud related infrastructure in India. The company is making this investment to meet the growing demand of customers in cloud services.

Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of Amazon, which provides cloud computing platforms on demand to individuals, companies and governments. The company has invested $3.7 billion (around Rs. 30,900 crore) from 2016 to 2022.

The Amazon Web Services cloud platform offers more than 200 services, including storage, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, in a conversation with Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman, emphasised on further strengthening India-Bangladesh trade ties and increasing connectivity.

CM Sangma also discussed the possibility of importing garments, plastic products, electronic products, processed food and frozen food from Bangladesh.
