IPS officer Praveen Sood takes charge as CBI Director  

IPS officer Praveen Sood today took charge as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sood was earlier serving as Director General of Police in Karnataka.

Praveen Sood will succeed incumbent CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal who will completes his tenure on 25 May 2023. 

Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Karnataka cadre.

About new CBI Director Praveen Sood

Praveen Sood, born in 1964, graduated from IIT Delhi, joined IPS in 1986 and started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mysore in 1989. He served as Superintendent of Police, Bellary and Raichur before getting posted to Bangalore city as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.

India, ADB sign $141.12 million loan agreement for industrial corridor development in Andhra Pradesh 

India, ADB sign $141.12 million loan agreement: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a USD 141.12 million loan agreement to support the development of high-quality internal infrastructure such as roads, water supply systems and electricity distribution network in three industrial clusters in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

India, ADB sign USD 141.12 million loan agreement: Key Highlights 

This financing is the second tranche of the $500 million multi-tranche financing facility (MFF) for the program approved by ADB in 2016 to build infrastructure in three industrial clusters in the Visakhapatnam and Srikalahasti-Chittoor nodes in the Andhra Pradesh state.

India and ADB $141.12 million loan agreement will help strengthen industrial infrastructure in Visakhapatnam node with the development of internal infrastructure in the start-up area of the 160-hectare (ha) Rambilli and 441-ha Nakkapalli industrial clusters, widening of 13.8-kilometer (km) of the Atchutapuram–Anakapalli road and improvement of 4.4-km access road to the Nakkapalli cluster.

PM Modi flags off Dehradun-Delhi Vande Bharat Express train 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the inaugural run of Vande Bharat Express train from Dehradun to Delhi via video conferencing. He also inaugurated newly electrified rail sections and declared Uttarakhand a 100% electric traction state.

This will be the first Vande Bharat to be introduced in Uttarakhand. The new Vande Bharat Express will cover the distance between Dehradun to Delhi in 4.5 hours. The train has been indigenously and is equipped with advanced safety features including the Kavach technology.


Govt launches SAMARTH campaign to promote digital transactions at Gram Panchayat level 

The Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh launched ‘SAMARTH Campaign on Promoting Digital Transactions in 50000 Gram Panchayats' under the AmritMahotsav in Lucknow.

The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India is running a "Samarth Campaign on Promoting Digital Transactions in 50,000 Gram Panchayats" which started from 1st February 2023 and will continue till 15th August 2023 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The key thrust of the Samarth campaign is to promote Digital Transactions in rural areas, particularly focusing on women.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declares the State a complete e-governance State, marking a major stride in Kerala’s journey towards achieving cent per cent digital literacy.

International Jumping Meeting 2023: Sreeshankar wins gold, Jeswin takes silver 

Indian Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar won gold while compatriot Jeswin Aldrin finished bagged silver at the International Jumping Meeting 2023 at Kallithea in Greece.

Murali Sreeshankar grabbed gold with a season-best of 8.18m while Jeswin Aldrin took silver with a jump of 7.85m at the International Jumping Meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level event, in Kallithea, Greece.


MOC Approves Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra's proposal to train in Finland

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on May 25th approved Olympic Gold Medallist Neeraj Chopra's proposal to train in Kuortane, Finland.

Neeraj, who is scheduled to compete in multiple World Athletics - Gold Level tournaments in June, intends to train at Kuortane Olympic Training Centre in Finland during this time.

Neeraj, who recently became the first Indian Javelin thrower to become World Number 1, had followed a similar training plan in the year 2022 as well.
