Justice Ritu Bahri Appointed as Chief Justice of Uttarakhand HC

The acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ritu Bahri has been appointed as Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.

Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court Vipin Sanghi retired on October 26, 2023, after which senior High Court judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari was made the acting Chief Justice.

Justice Ritu Bahri Appointed Uttarakhand CJ

After the approval of President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, notification has been issued to appoint Ritu Bahri as Uttarakhand Chief Justice (CJ).

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Kumari Justice Ritu Bahri, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office.”

About Justice Ritu Bahri 

Justice Ritu Bahri was the first woman acting Chief Justice of the Punjab-Haryana High Court. She was born on October 11, 1962 at Jalandhar.

Kumari Ritu did her schooling from Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh and graduated in Economics (Hons.) from Government College for Women, Chandigarh in the year 1982.

After this she studied law from Punjab University, Chandigarh in the year 1985. Bahri started practising law in the Punjab-Haryana High Court in 1986 and later worked in the Haryana Advocate General's Office.

On August 16, 2010, Ritu Bahri was appointed judge of the Punjab-Haryana High Court.
