India and Saudi Arabia conducted the sixth edition of Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on September 4, 2024.

India-Saudi Arabia JCDC Meeting: Discussion
India and Saudi Arabia discussed new opportunities to further strengthen long-term and multi-faceted defence cooperation during the meeting of the Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC).
Along with this, detailed discussions were held to expand the scope of participation and cooperation in the areas of military, training, defence industry, research and development etc.
JCDC Meeting Co-chaired By
The JCDC meeting were co-chaired by India’s Joint Secretary (Armed Forces) Amitabh Prasad and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defence for Strategic Affairs, Major General Salman Bin Awadh Al-Harbi.
India-Saudi Arabia Relations
India and Saudi Arabia enjoy cordial and friendly relations based on centuries-old economic and socio-cultural ties. Their diplomatic relations were established in 1947.

The historic visit of King Abdullah to India in January 2006 was a watershed moment that resulted in the signing of the ‘Delhi Declaration’. It was followed later by the ‘Riyadh Declaration’ in 2010 during the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to the Kingdom from February 27 to March 01, 2010 which elevated the bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.

Saudi Arabia is India’s fourth largest trade partner and India is Saudi Arabia’s second largest trade partner. During FY 2022-23, India’s imports from Saudi Arabia reached US $42.03 billion and exports to Saudi Arabia were worth US$ 10.72 billion registering an increase of 22.48% over last year (FY 2021-22).

India's main exports to Saudi Arabia during this period included engineering goods, rice, petroleum products, chemicals, textiles, food products, ceramic tiles.
India's Import From Saudi Arabia
Whereas, major commodities of import for India from Saudi Arabia are crude oil, LPG, fertilizers, chemicals, plastic and products thereof etc.
