Satish Kumar takes charge as Chairman and CEO, Railway Board

Satish Kumar took over as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board (Ministry of Railways) on 1st September 2024. Satish is a 1986 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME).

Satish Kumar Appointed As Chairman and CEO, Railway Board

Satish Kumar has been appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board (Ministry of Railways). He has replaced Jaya Varma Sinha

Satish Kumar took over the appointment of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board at New Delhi with effect from 01 Sep 2024.

Prior to his present appointment, Satish Kumar was the Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) (MTRS), a key position that oversees the critical aspects of traction and rolling stock across Indian Railways.

About Satish Kumar Chairman and CEO, Railway Board

Satish Kumar is a 1986 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME).

Satish joined Indian Railways in March, 1988 and has a rich experience of 34 years. Before joining the Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) (MTRS) Railway Board, he worked as General Manager, North Central Railway, Prayagraj.

On 8th November 2022, he took charge as the General Manager of North Central Railway, Prayagraj.

Earlier, Kumar had worked in Jhansi Division and BLW (Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi), NER, Gorakhpur, Patiala Locomotive Works in various capacities. He was trained in Total Quality Management, under UNDP programme in 1996 and has handled many projects in his career.

A significant contribution of Satish Kumar is his work on the Fog Safe Device, an innovation that has proven to be instrumental in ensuring safe train operations during foggy conditions. This device has become a critical tool for Indian Railways, significantly reducing the risks associated with reduced visibility during the winter months, particularly in the northern regions of India. His efforts in improving this technology have earned him recognition and appreciation from various quarters.

Satish had also worked as Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow Division of Northern Railway from April, 2017 to April, 2019. A large number of infrastructural works were accomplished during his tenure as DRM, Lucknow.

Before his appointment as the General Manager of North Central Railway, Kumar served as the Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer on North Western Railway, Jaipur.
