IGNCA signs MoU with BSIP for Unified Platform for Science and Culture
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, an autonomous trust under the Ministry of Culture, along with the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Unified Platform for Science and Culture at IGNCA, New Delhi.

On this occasion, an orientation programme was organised for the students of eleven PG Diploma courses conducted by IGNCA, spanning areas from Cultural Informatics to Indian Literature, with the objective of embedding traditional knowledge within contemporary education.
These courses, designed to develop skilled professionals, provide practical training and hands-on experience, fostering a meaningful exchange between learners, experts, and living traditions.
IGNCA and BSIP MoU Signed by
The IGNCA and BSIP MoU for Unified Platform for Science and Culture was signed by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi and Prof. Mahesh G. Thakkar. Dr. Achal Pandya, Head & Professor, Conservation Division, IGNCA and Dr. Shilpa Pandey, Senior Scientist, BSIP, will serve as nodal officers for the collaboration.
Aims of IGNCA and BSIP MoU
The IGNCA and BSIP MoU for Unified Platform for Science and Culture aims to preserve, interpret, and present India’s heritage through innovative programmes, fostering awareness nationally and globally.

The IGNCA and BSIP MoU represents the first initiative in India to integrate science and culture on a unified platform, with the aim of showcasing the nation’s scientific and cultural achievements to both domestic and international audiences.
Focus Areas of IGNCA and BSIP MoU
IGNCA and BSIP MoU for Unified Platform for Science and Culture focuses on digitisation, education, and supporting Project Mausam on climate change in maritime history. The Collaboration will cover research, documentation, conservation, museum development, fieldwork, audio-visual records, joint publications, and training in conservation and heritage management, along with public outreach.

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) was established in 1987 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, as a centre for research, academic pursuit and dissemination in the field of the arts. The Arts’ encompass a wide range of subjects – from archaeology and anthropology to the visual and performing arts, enveloping them in a complementary and non-demarcated vision.

The aims and objectives of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts are as follows.
- to serve as a major resource centre for the arts, especially written, oral and visual source materials.
- to undertake research and publication programmes of reference works, glossaries, dictionaries and encyclopaedia concerning the arts and the humanities.
- to establish a tribal and folk arts division with a core collection for conducting systematic scientific studies and for live presentations.
- to provide a forum for a creative and critical dialogue through performances, exhibitions, multi-media projections, conferences, seminars and workshops between and amongst the diverse arts, traditional and cotemporary.
- to foster dialogue between arts and current ideas in philosophy, science and technology, with a view toward bridging the gap in intellectual understanding between modern sciences and arts and culture.
- to evolve models of research programmes and arts administration more pertinent to the Indian ethos.
- to elucidate the formative and dynamic factors in the complex web of interactions between diverse social strata, communities and regions.
- to promote an network with national and international institutions.
- to conduct related research in the arts, humanities and culture.
