IAS Piyush Goyal Appointed As Secretary, Ministry of Mines
IAS officer Piyush Goyal has been appointed as Secretary of the Ministry of Mines. Piyush Goyal succeeds V.L. Kantha Rao, IAS (1992 batch), who is currently serving as Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
Piyush Goyal took over the appointment of new Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, New Delhi with effect from 4th September 2025.
Before being appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, Goyal was serving as Chief Executive Officer of NATGRID under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

About IAS Piyush Goyal
Piyush Goyal was born on 1st July 1972. Goyal is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Nagaland cadre.
He holds a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi.
IAS Goyal serves as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
