Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to establish the Centre for Sustainable Energy at the IIT Madras. The Centre will serve as a hub for cutting-edge R&D and capacity-building initiatives in sustainable energy technologies. Through this collaboration with IIT Madras, Coal India aims to generate indigenous solutions that ensure energy security, decarbonization, and socioeconomic progress.

Coal India and IIT Madras Signs MoU to Establish Centre for Sustainable Energy

Coal India Limited (CIL) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Centre for Sustainable Energy at the IIT Madras.

The Centre will serve as a hub for cutting-edge R&D and capacity-building initiatives in sustainable energy technologies.

The partnership between Coal India and IIT Madras reflects a shared commitment to lead India's energy transition through indigenous research, innovation and technology development to achieve the country's net-zero targets by 2070.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy, established by Coal India and IIT Madras, will also contribute to human capital development through PhD, post-doctoral and internship programmes, and prepare the next generation of researchers and engineers to lead India's green energy transition.

The Coal India and IIT Madras MoU to Establish Centre for Sustainable Energy was signed by Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical), CIL, and V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, in the presence of P.M. Prasad, Chairman, CIL, along with senior officials from both CIL and IIT Madras.
